Keikyu Line Yokosuka Chuo Station (KK59)
We walk from Yokosuka Chuo Station to Yokosuka Port Market.
If necessary, you may buy a lunch box there and bring it to the Sarushima Island for lunch.
Yokosuka Port Market is a vibrant and popular destination located in Yokosuka City, known for offering a wide range of fresh seafood, local produce, and unique culinary experiences. The market is a significant attraction for both locals and tourists, and it encapsulates the essence of Yokosuka's rich maritime culture. Visitors can find a variety of fish, shellfish, and other sea products, often caught locally and brought in daily. The freshness and quality of the seafood are a major draw.
Mikasa Pier is in close proximity to Mikasa Park, which is home to the battleship Mikasa, a significant vessel in Japanese naval history. The pier itself may have historical ties to the naval activities in the area, serving as a dock or a point for maritime operations, especially during the time when the battleship Mikasa was active.
But at the same time, Mikasa Pier is Ferry terminal for Sarushima Island.
We get on the 11:30 am Ferry to Sarushima Island, which takes about 10 minutes cruise on the sea.
Sarushima Island is a unique and historically significant island located in Tokyo Bay. It is the only natural island in the bay and has a rich history coupled with natural beauty.
The name Sarushima, meaning "Monkey Island" in Japanese, comes from a legend that a god appeared on the island in the form of a monkey. The island has been known since ancient times and has various historical and mythical stories associated with it.
During the Meiji and pre-World War II Showa periods from 1868 till 1945, the island was fortified and used by the Imperial Japanese Navy. The remnants of these military fortifications can still be found on the island.
Despite its historical militarization, Sarushima remains a place of natural beauty. It's covered with lush greenery and is home to various species of birds and other wildlife.
We walk in the lush green forest and explore the remnants of the military fortifications such as barracks, gun batteries and tunnels.
We take the 13:45 ferry back to Mikasa Park and take a look at inside of the battleship Mikasa.
Mikasa Park is a historical and cultural landmark in Yokosuka City, is renowned primarily for being the permanent berth of the pre-Dreadnought battleship, the Japanese battleship Mikasa, which holds great historical significance for Japan. The ship was the flagship of Admiral Togo Heihachiro during the Russo-Japanese War (1904-1905), playing a pivotal role in the Battle of Tsushima. This battle was particularly notable as it marked the first time in modern history that an Asian power defeated a European power in a significant naval engagement.
Surrounding the battleship are well-maintained park grounds with walking paths, benches, and green spaces. It also contains various monuments and memorials, including the statue of Admiral Togo and the sailors who served with him.
We walk to the Dobuita Street passing through the gate of U.S. Naval Base.
Dobuita Street is a vibrant and culturally rich area known for its unique blend of Japanese and American influences. This lively street became especially well-known due to the presence of the US Navy base in Yokosuka.
Initially it was known for its bars, nightclubs, and entertainment catering to U.S. servicemen. It still retains signs of its past, but now offers a broader array of shops, eateries, and cultural experiences.
We keep walking from Dobuita Street to Verny Park.
Verney Park is a scenic and tranquil public park, known for its beautiful green spaces, waterfront views, and historical significance.
We walk to JR Yokosuka Station while watching the beautiful greens and some battleships docked in the pier because we can see Japanese Maritime Self Defence Forces base.

Hi! I am Macky.
I am glad to accompany you on your tour to Japan and show you the beauty and experiences Japan has to offer.
I am an English tour guide and I have guided many foreign visitors around Kamakura, Nikko, Mt. Fuji and Hakone. I love sightseeing myself and I enjoy food and wine…
I have been interested in intercultural exchanges and have visited many places locally and overseas alike. I have strong passion in Japanese history, culture, and geography. More than just simply showing you the stunning beauty of the places, I love to impart the cultural and historical value of each sightseeing spot.
The place I can guide tourists best is Kamakura which has major shrines and temples with historical and religious details. It can be fun not only to explore Kamakura from historical point of view but also experience various activities such as hiking, rental kimono-clad walking, and learning carving technique as well as soba noodle preparation.
I am flexible. My guide is unique and comprehensive. If you want to make the most out of your trip, I can show you around and make you experience Japan to the fullest. I can accommodate the tour according to your needs and preferences giving you a hassle-free, enjoyable and memorable tour. I can also take you to non tourism places such as various factory tours in Yokohama and Kawasaki City.

“Group Outing to Mt Fuji”
Exceptional doesn’t describe our experience with Macky. When I booked our tour with him, he guided us through the process of booking Shinkansen tickets from Tokyo to Mishima (a group bucket list experience) and helped arrange a private bus for our group of 12. He met us at the station with a huge smile and provided not only great detail on the locations we visited, but also on the culture and customs of Japan. Macky was so great we joked that he had arranged for fantastic weather and an I encumbered view of the peak of Mt Fuji. The memories of the day will stay with us. Macky, Our group really wants you to know how much we loved our time with you and wish you the best! Mike

“So much to see but we saw it all”
What a beautiful day with your guide Mackey. He is pleasant, accommodating, knowledgeable and successfully navigated the weather to ensure we had a great day. Highly recommend especially for cruise passengers.
“We did so much. ”
Macky was extremely accommodating. We switched some things up and he went with the flow. I had originally booked someone else who had a health issue. We found it hard to understand him and had to concentrate a lot to understand the information. But we packed it in! We saw a lot.
