Meeting Point
Sannomiya Tourist Information Center
- We begin the tour at the Sannomiya Tourist Information Center, a convenient and easy-to-find meeting spot in the heart of Kobe. After a brief introduction and overview of the day, we head together toward the ropeway for our first destination.
Nunobiki Herb Gardens and Ropeway
We take the Kobe Nunobiki Ropeway up the mountainside, enjoying scenic views as the city slowly opens up below us. The Nunobiki Herb Gardens are known for their seasonal flowers, fragrant herbs, and beautiful panoramic views of Kobe, the port, and the surrounding mountains. We walk at a relaxed pace, with time for photos and to enjoy the peaceful atmosphere at the mountaintop.
Sannomiya
After visiting the gardens, we travel back down by ropeway and return to Sannomiya. This area is the lively center of Kobe, filled with shops, cafés, and local streets that show everyday city life.
Kobe Chinatown/Motomachi
From Sannomiya, we enjoy a pleasant walk through Kobe Chinatown and Motomachi. Chinatown is famous for its colorful gates, vibrant streets, and tempting food stalls. Just beyond it, Motomachi offers a more relaxed atmosphere with stylish shops and an international feel, reflecting Kobe’s history as a port city.
Harborland
We continue to Harborland, a popular waterfront shopping and leisure area. With open views of the harbor, modern buildings, and relaxed seaside paths, this area is perfect for photos and a gentle stroll along the water.
Meriken Park
Next, we visit Meriken Park, a spacious park by the sea. Here you can enjoy wide harbor views and see the Earthquake Memorial, which preserves part of the original harbor wall as a reminder of the city’s past and its resilience.
Ending Point

About Tour Guide Kyoko K.
Hi, I’m Kyoko. I was born and raised in Kobe. After completing my education, I spent 25 years in London, where I taught piano and enjoyed a wonderful life in England. I returned to Kobe a couple of years ago to care for my elderly father and began a new chapter in my career as a tour guide.
Kobe has recovered beautifully since the major earthquake 30 years ago. It is much quieter than Kyoto and Osaka, making it a perfect place to relax and enjoy your time in Japan. I would love to show you the beautiful scenery of Kobe, from its mountains to its seaside. My typical tour starts at the herb gardens on the mountaintop, continues through the city center and Chinatown, and finishes at Harborland, a famous spot for photos and stunning views.
It would be my pleasure to help you create wonderful memories in Kobe.
I look forward to welcoming you on my tour.

Exploring Kobe, Hyogo
Kobe come to a vital life again from intense earthquake that hit on Jan 17, 1995. Kobe always creates us a resplendent, exotic mood that the cosmopolitan city has. The old foreign settlement where sophisticated modern architecture still remains upper town must be the reason to ferment that atmosphere and give the period of cosmopolitan flavor. At Meriken Wharf, you can hear the whistles of ships and touch cultural history in this city.
