All your favorite ONE PIECE characters are in Kumamoto. As part of a collaboration with Eiichiro Oda, author of ONE PIECE born and raised in Kumamoto City, a total of 10 statues of the Straw Hat Pirates of ONE PIECE have been installed throughout Kumamoto Prefecture. The One Piece statues are part of a larger project to help Kumamoto recover after the 2016 earthquakes and are being built thanks to the cooperation of and extremely generous donation from Mr. Oda.

Hello! I'm Steve and I’m originally from Sydney, Australia, but I’ve lived in Kumamoto City for the past 28 years. I hold a Gold license. I’d love to take you on a tour of some of the region’s most historic and stunning sites. I took my profile picture on the balcony of my home, which sits high on a hill, offering great views of the city both day and night, with majestic mountain ranges in the distance.
I was a school teacher here for 25 years, starting in Japanese public schools before transitioning to an American institution.
I understand that when traveling abroad, many people prefer a local tour guide. While I wasn’t born in Japan, after nearly three decades here, I consider myself as local as it gets! Not only can I share insights about the local culture, but I can also offer a unique perspective as a foreigner who has grown to love this country as my own.
With our comfortable 4x4 full leather interior SUV, we’ll explore hidden gems that typical tour buses can’t reach, making your experience even more special.
On our way to the sites, I’ll describe anything that catches your eye so you don’t miss a thing. I know that returning back from a great trip can feel like the end of something special, so if there’s anything I can do to make the ride more enjoyable, just let me know. On the way back, feel free to play any music you like on the BOSE sound system in the car.

“Unforgettable trip to Mt. Aso and Takachiho Gorge with the best guide ”
Steve is a great tour guide who has lived in Kumamoto for a long time. He was very accommodating, helped us customize our tour, and is a fun character with lots of stories about his life in Japan and the local culture. His car was very comfortable, and he drove safely. I would gladly book his fantastic service again anytime.

Thank you, Mario! We had an awesome day. Who knows, maybe next time I’m in China, I can book you as my tour guide! As I write this, you’re probably on the bullet train to Nagasaki. I hope you both have a wonderful time there. I really enjoyed our conversations during the tour!

“A Legendary Tour with an Absolute Legend ”
After being unable to find a tour guide that had space for my Fiance and I for our one day in Kumamoto I had given up. But then like a sign from god I found him. Steve. I reached out to him late at night expecting that I wouldn't have any luck untill. That fatefull response. Steve picked us up from our hotel the following morning and took us on the perfect tour not just to see the One Piece statues but also showed us a side of Kumamoto only a local would know. He was incredible and a great chat. He had a lot of insight on the Prefecture as a whole and gave us a number of recommendations on what to see and do. I have been on a number of tours and Steve is by far the best tour guide and one of the nicest people I have had the pleasure to meet. Thank you for the wonderful day from Billy and Alyce

Hi Billy and Alyce! What a fantastic day we had, you were such great conversationalists! I really appreciate your kind words. It’s not often I get to take fellow Aussies on a tour, and it was truly an awesome experience. I hope you enjoy the rest of your time in Japan, and if you’re ever back in my neck of the woods, don’t hesitate to reach out, I’ll be here for you!

“Tour of a Lifetime”
I had the most wonderful experience touring with Steve! Not only is he incredibly knowledgeable about the area, but he goes out of his way to make your experience memorable and fun. He was very accommodating with the tour, so you can change up your itinerary if there is a place you'd rather see. Steve's car was clean and well maintained, and he even had a charger available for me when I didn't think to bring mine! Mt Aso is definitely one of the most beautiful places I have ever been, and Steve truly made it the tour of a lifetime. Thank you Steve!!!

Thank you for the review, Paris! We had such a great day. Although the volcano was initially closed due to gas levels, we were patient, and it paid off, they eventually let us in. I’m really glad you had a wonderful time on the tour. I hope you enjoyed the fresh water we collected from the Shirakawa Spring! You'll have some awesome photos to share with your family from your adventures in Kumamoto.
