Hello! I'm Steve and I’m originally from Sydney, Australia, but I’ve lived in Kumamoto City for the past 28 years. I hold a Gold license. I’d love to take you on a tour of some of the region’s most historic and stunning sites. I took my profile picture on the balcony of my home, which sits high on a hill, offering great views of the city both day and night, with majestic mountain ranges in the distance. I was a school teacher here for 25 years, starting in Japanese public schools before transitioning to an American institution. I understand that when traveling abroad, many people prefer a local tour guide. While I wasn’t born in Japan, after nearly three decades here, I consider myself as local as it gets! Not only can I share insights about the local culture, but I can also offer a unique perspective as a foreigner who has grown to love this country as my own. With our comfortable 4x4 full leather interior SUV, we’ll explore hidden gems that typical tour buses can’t reach, making your experience even more special. On our way to the sites, I’ll describe anything that catches your eye so you don’t miss a thing. I know that returning back from a great trip can feel like the end of something special, so if there’s anything I can do to make the ride more enjoyable, just let me know. On the way back, feel free to play any music you like on the BOSE sound system in the car.

Kumamoto Tour Reviews

A Perfectly Customised Tour of Kumamoto!

Our customised tour of Kumamoto was truly unforgettable—an easy 5-star experience from start to finish. Every element of the trip was thoughtfully curated to match our interests, blending iconic landmarks with off-the-beaten-path gems that matched a family of 4. A highlight was visiting the Reigando Cave, stepping into history at the Shimada Museum and visiting the final resting place of Japan’s greatest Samurai—an unexpected and fascinating stop that blended art and history. We also enjoyed a breathtaking lookout over the valley at Daikambo, where we paused to take in the panoramic beauty of Kumamoto’s rolling landscape—an experience that felt both peaceful and profound. Round it out with a visit to the, one day to be, King of the Pirates Luffy statue Our guide Steve was outstanding—warm, knowledgeable, and flexible, ensuring we felt both cared for and free to explore at our own pace. This tour felt personal, immersive, and full of surprises. If you want a truly special way to experience Kumamoto, this is the way to do it!

Thank you all for being such great guests! Your father gave me enough content to write at least 5 chapters of a book!. Maybe I can name the book ( Dundee in the land of the Rising Sun ) haha. I hope you get to enjoy the rest of your stay in Japan, I really hope our paths cross again whether here or Downunder!!

Unforgettable trip to Mt. Aso and Takachiho Gorge with the best guide

Steve is a great tour guide who has lived in Kumamoto for a long time. He was very accommodating, helped us customize our tour, and is a fun character with lots of stories about his life in Japan and the local culture. His car was very comfortable, and he drove safely. I would gladly book his fantastic service again anytime.

Thank you, Mario! We had an awesome day. Who knows, maybe next time I’m in China, I can book you as my tour guide! As I write this, you’re probably on the bullet train to Nagasaki. I hope you both have a wonderful time there. I really enjoyed our conversations during the tour!

A Legendary Tour with an Absolute Legend

After being unable to find a tour guide that had space for my Fiance and I for our one day in Kumamoto I had given up. But then like a sign from god I found him. Steve. I reached out to him late at night expecting that I wouldn't have any luck untill. That fatefull response. Steve picked us up from our hotel the following morning and took us on the perfect tour not just to see the One Piece statues but also showed us a side of Kumamoto only a local would know. He was incredible and a great chat. He had a lot of insight on the Prefecture as a whole and gave us a number of recommendations on what to see and do. I have been on a number of tours and Steve is by far the best tour guide and one of the nicest people I have had the pleasure to meet. Thank you for the wonderful day from Billy and Alyce

Hi Billy and Alyce! What a fantastic day we had, you were such great conversationalists! I really appreciate your kind words. It’s not often I get to take fellow Aussies on a tour, and it was truly an awesome experience. I hope you enjoy the rest of your time in Japan, and if you’re ever back in my neck of the woods, don’t hesitate to reach out, I’ll be here for you!
