Konchi-in Temple is one of the subordinte temples of Nanzen-ji Temple, which is the head temple of the Nanzen-ji branch of Rinzai Sect of Zen Buddhism. Originally founded by the priest Daigo in the 15th Century in the Kitayama ourskirt of the morthern section of Kyoto City, it was later transferred to its present place by the priest Suden. For more than 25years in the early 17th century, Suden, who was also known as the "prime minister in the black robe", dominated in the fields of politics,diplamacy and culture.
All of the present buildings of Nanzen-ji Temple were constructed in the 16th century. Moreover many of them are designated as "Important Cultural Assets". Konchi-in has a famous dry landscape garden, Crane and Turrle garden. Tenju-an has two gardens, east and southgardens.

“Perfect day in Kyoto”
We asked to visit Arashiyama bambo forest, Nijo-jo castle and Fushimi inari for our Kyoto day. The travelling was well planned and the transfer between places was smooth. Toshiyo's english was perfect, and she shares a lot of historic and cultural facts. She even took the bus with us to make sure we return safely after the tour, as we were not familiar with the bus line. We really liked our tour and recommend Toshiyo for your Kyoto tour. “Great tour with a very expierenced guide”
The two of us took a seven-hour day tour with Toshiyo. The tour was very interesting and well-organized. Toshiyo is a very good and experienced guide from Kyoto. She is very friendly and has a wealth of in-depth knowledge of Kyoto, Japanese culture, history, and religion. Her English is excellent, and she showed us and explained many interesting details. We visited the Fushimi Inari Shrine, the Sanjūsangen-dō Temple (1001 Buddhas), the Ginkaku-ji (Silver Pavilion), the small and very beautiful Honen-in Temple, the Philosopher's Path, and the Kinkaku-ji (Golden Pavilion). Kyoto is an ancient city, which used to like be the capital of Japan for 1000 years. There are about 1600 temples and 400 shrines and beautiful gardens. It also has a lot of traditional crafts,such as kimono, fans, Japanese artistic sweets. There are a lot of things to do and experience. First of all I will take you to Gion area.I will take you to Yasaka Shrine and Kenninji Temple. Then let's move to the Nishiki market. and have sushi lunch in the market. Gion is the area of entertainment, where there are many bars and taverns. Some important business and political talks have been conducted. You may run across Maiko and Geiko, Japanese entertainers in kimono. If you want to wear Japanese costume in Gion, I can arrange with extra charge. NIshiki market is the kitchen of the Kyoro, where local people buy their everyday food. Fish stores, vegetable stores, pickles stores and so on. A friend of mine owns a Yuba shop in the market.
