Join us for an unforgettable Sendai foodie adventure and discover the authentic flavors of our city, from fresh Sushi, sizzling gyutan and savory sasa-kamaboko to sweet zunda mochi and everything in between!

Since all of the site is located near Sendai station area, we will take a walk to discover them. The walking toward next stop will help you digestion, so don't worry about eating too much!!

Sendai Morning Market

Our first stop is a vibrant local market, brimming with this morning's fresh catch! What's more, several stalls offer on-the-spot preparation, providing your chosen fish or scallops. Don't miss the small counter where you can order delicious, fresh sushi made just for you!

Age-Hanpen (Deep-fried fish cake)

It is made from minced fish paste and is famous for its unique texture—crispy on the outside and light and fluffy on the inside. There will be four tastes to choose.

Sasa-Kama

Sasa-kamaboko is Sendai's most famous grilled fish cake. It’s shaped like a bamboo leaf, which comes from the 'Take-ni-Suzume' (Bamboo and Sparrow) crest of the Date clan, the historical rulers of Sendai. You can bake it inside the store by yourself, which makes the Sasa-Kama more savory.

Hyoutan-age

Hyoutan-age, a popular local snack that looks like a gourd (hyoutan). It’s essentially a deep-fried fish cake 'corndog.' It consists of two round Sasa-kamaboko balls dipped in a sweet, donut-like batter and deep-fried until golden brown. It’s the perfect finger food for walking around Sendai!

Mochi (freshly made rice cake)*

Experience a classic Japanese dessert in a beautifully preserved traditional structure.

You’ll get to try their freshly pounded mochi, served in a set of three. You can select your favorites from six traditional toppings. Eating authentic mochi in this atmospheric teahouse is a very sophisticated and stylish way to enjoy Sendai's food culture.

Kasho Sanzen

Welcome to the flagship store of Kasho Sanzen, a name synonymous with Sendai's dessert culture.

While their sweets are available elsewhere, visiting the Main Store (Honten) is a special experience. The elegant interior and impeccable service reflect the high standards of Japanese hospitality.

Gyu-Tan (Ox Tongue) restraunt

Highly recommend this specific restaurant for Gyutan (ox tongue); in my opinion, it's the best in Sendai. To fully enjoy the experience, I suggest dining inside.

Arrive there around 12:30 PM for lunch, after visiting our other small food stops. I’ll pre-book the seat and help you with the ordering process, but please note that the tour will be ended here, so we won’t be joining you for the meal.

“Amazing JJBA Pilgrimage ”

Eiji and his wife were wonderful guides, very knowledgeable and super fun to talk and walk with! I think this was the best tour I have ever been on actually. I usually like exploring places alone but I think I'm changing my mind a bit! I love JJBA Part 4 a lot, and to see places based on what Araki references was so cool! Definitely book Eiji for a nice tour with a local!! Like seriously, I had so much fun
