This is a scene of the summer festival held on 27 August at the Haneda Airport International terminal.
Do you understand what they are doing? The yound girl and the boy are beating the dohyou (sumo ring) to turn over the oponent's sumo wrestler. This play is one of nostalgic play for many Japanese. I also played with one of my friends, when I was an elementary student. Of course, it was not such a big size but a small one on my desk in a classroom. When we started this play, we shouted a fixed expression as a real sumo referee, like....."Hakke Yohi, Nokotta, Nokotta" When I was small, I did not know what they mean. But now I realize that it means, " Are you ready? Hold on not to turn out !! " This play is very simple but exciting. Please make your own Kamizumo ( paper craft of sumo wrestling ) to take this photo as your reference material and enjoy Japanese traditional play in your house.
