“Expanded Horizons”

We were picked up by a wonderful guide; Minako. We visited Akada Great Buddha in Yurinhonjo city. There was a towering statue 9 meters tall. We were told that this Buddha is not evolved as he is still working. He had a jug of water in one hand and a staff in the other. Minako impressed upon us the ways the Buddha evolves. Was very interesting and informative. After a discussion we went for a small luncheon to a child’s museum. Was a nice reprieve from busier restaurants. Next we toured a saki brewery. In Yoshima. Very small brewery were we were immersed in all the workings of great sake. Special water; new rice only This brewery has won many awards. The sampling told us why. All the while Minako regaled us with interesting stories of the area. She made sure we had adequate time to get back to the boat. Was a pleasure to meet Minako

Akita has so many more beautiful places to visit and delicious local foods to enjoy. There are stunning gorges and lakes, especially during the autumn when the leaves turn beautiful colors. “A tour made our way”

It was great to walk off the ship and see our taxi man holding up a sign with our name. No waiting and no cramped buses. Our guide has limited English but with the translator app, it’s wasn’t a problem. We were able to visit the Sumari village and was shown a local place to have lunch. It was a great day out.

“Minako was great”

The tour was perfect. We visited two Samurai homes. The weather wasn't great but the tour was good. Minako's English was fine, and she spoke softly. We went to her mother's bakery also, and it was incredible

Thank you also for the lovely gift of maple syrup. That was so thoughtful of you! My only regret is that the sake brewery tour took longer than expected, leaving us less time to explore Akita City.
