This tour is designed to offer you to learn about deep and touchy story about history of Hakata and the famous monk Kukai who built Tochouji temple and the first Shogun Kuroda family and show you the temple that originated noodle Udon and Manju. I will also guide you to the Hakata guardian shrine of Kushida shrine and the parent shrine Sumiyoshi shrine that rules the 600 of Sumiyoshi shrines in Japan . Meeting Point
Hakata station in front of tourist guide desk
- Hakata station tourist guide desk In the Hakata station , there is tourist guide center located in the center of station. I will put up my name card “Manabu".
Visit Touchouji temple
After departing from Hakata station , we will walk about 10 minutes to Tochouji temple, which has 1200 years of history and this temple was founded by famous monk Kukai and also the first clan of this region Kuroda family has been enshrined.
The temple has the biggest wooden Buddha statue in Japan and we can have tours of hell and heaven in this temple.
Visit Shofukuji temple
We will visit Shofukuji temple, which was built in 1195 and the first founder of the Rinzai Buddha denomination, that has thousands of temples across Japan.
Visit Joutenji temple
Joutenji temple was built in 1242 by Chinese merchant, who held a monk who we dispatched to China who spent 6 years there and brought technics to make Udon noodle and Manjyu Japanese traditional confectionary and udon spread from Hakata, which is not quite known even among Japanese. You can even the origin of popular food in Japan.
Visit Hakata Furusato (home) house and Kushida shrine
We will walk to Kushida shrine and Hakata Furusato kan, where you can watch craft man working to hand make the traditional artifacts and also learn about the local festival and history.
Kushida shrine is really a guardian of Hakata people , the shrine built in 757, having over 1200 years of history . Now this shrine is the center of Gods in Kyushu area.
Visit Sumiyoshi temple
Amongst so many Sumiyoshi shrine in Japan, this temple in Hakata is the origin of Sumiyoshi shrine , which is believed to be the god of commerce hosted and enshrined . Also this temple has deep connection with Sumo wrestling and we can see awesome sumo wrestler statue.
Visit Rakusuien garden
Hakata has a lots of beautiful Japanese garden and Rakusuien is one of the garden located inside the Hakata city with easy access.
We can observe the beautiful outsets of Japanese garden.
Yanagibashi Rengou Fish Market
We will visit Yanagibashi Rngou Ichiba, fish market.
This market consists of many fish stores and they sell and bid fish. This place is called “the kitchen of Hakata“ and we can have fresh tuna Sushi.

I grew up in Saitama prefecture, next to Tokyo and worked in Tokyo almost over 20 years and
Also worked in Osaka for 6 years, other than that I lived in Nagoya for 5 years and I have been around many major cities in Japan. But I assure you Hakata is the best place in Japan to visit and live, since you can visit Kyushu everywhere with stay in Fukuoka as hub and visit Nagasaki, Miyazaki, Oita , or Kagoshima , all of them are wonderful attractive places.
Kyushu is actually the origin of Japan in Japanese mythology, which generated the Japanese Shintoism in Takachiho Gorge. There are so many attractive places to see and so many fabulous foods to eat , fresh fish, beef, Motsunabe, Udon, and so many foods were generated from this region. I can introduce and explain a lots of stuff about here to you .
To talk about my career, I started to work at company Panasonic and after that , I walked on the career for Automotive component as sales working for American companies.
I had education at Meiji University majoring Business Administration and was exchanged to
University of Alberta in Canada. Though I walked in the field different from tourism, I was always aspired to talk about and promote Japan to foreign countries and people and wanted to be civil Ambassador for long time and became guide 2 years ago. I have guided Americans and so many foreigners globally and all of them have given me 5 star ratings, fortunately!
