Being the site of mass suicides, WW2 combat training drills gone wrong, and ancient battlefields, Kamakura is a perfect breeding ground for supernatural occurences and scary stories. Come with me and we'll go and see some of the spookiest sites in Kamakura, along with some of the highlights!

Meeting Point
Kamakura Station (or your hotel)
- Unfortunately, nothing spooky here. It's just a train station. But, from here, it's just a short walk to some cool spots!
Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine
One of the highlights of Kamakura, and the best place to learn about the history of the capital of Japan's first samurai government. Here we will set the stage for the macabre tales to come later on in the tour.
Grave of Minamoto no Yoritomo / Site of the mass suicide of the Miura Clan
The Miura clan fell here, next to the grave of their lord. Ghost sitings are common in this area.
Tosho-ji / Site of the mass suicide of the Hojo Clan
Widely thought to be the most haunted place in Kamakura, this is where the powerful Hojo clan met their demise.
The Beaches of Kamakura / Hase Station Area
The beaches of Kamakura were used during WW2 to train its citizens in underwater combat. However, the training exercises were disastrous, and the waters are said to be haunted to this day.
Bonus: The Great Buddha of Kamakura
After all the stories of death and ghosts, I think we'd all like to detox with a little bit of ordinary sightseeing!

Hi travelers, I'm John! I'm a part-time teacher and a full-time history nerd, and I've lived in the Tokyo/Yokohama/Kamakura area for 6 years. If you're looking for a fun time hiking up some small mountains and avoiding the crowds by hitting up lesser-known(but still amazing) sights, then I'm your guy! Or, if you want to hit up all the big sights and be wowed by their splendor, I'm still your guy! So, let's get out there, have some fun, and I'll teach you all I know about Japan and its wonders!
Also, being a vegetarian, I know all the best veg-friendly places in the area, so I'm an excellent for vegetarians and vegans.
