About Tour Guide Kaneo U.
I’m so excited to have a chance to show you around my favorite spots in Kanagawa prefecture. I was born in Kanagawa. I spent my whole school life, including university, here in Kanagawa. I worked as a high school English teacher here for more than 40 years. I love Kanagawa so much. We have many interesting tourist spots, like Hakone, Kamakura, Enoshima and Yokohama.
I got my tour guide license in English in 2009. I am still an English teacher. To give an interesting and impressive lesson to young high school students, I’ve learnt and gathered many kinds of information. I also have a license to teach social studies, so I have a wide range of knowledge about Japanese culture and history. I’m sure to provide you an interesting tour.

“The "K" in Kaneo stands for "Kind"”
Kaneo was such a thoughtful and kind guide. He messaged me before our flight from the U.S. to check on us because there was a typhoon expected in Tokyo as we would be flying. Our flight was delayed and that impacted our dinner reservation we had planned for our first evening. Because I couldn't contact the restaurant while we were flying, Kaneo was willing to call and adjust the reservation for us. Kaneo was very intentional about making sure we went to stores of interest to the kids when we walked around the Ginza area. He found a great stationary story for my daughter and golf store for my son. I was worried about navigating our first train ride in Japan the following day and Kaneo took us to the train station to show us around so we were ready the next morning. We are looking forward to another day with Kaneo when we return to Tokyo before heading home to the U.S.

Thank you for your kind and good review. I am glad the typhoon didn’t harm your trip too much. I am looking forward to seeing you again in Tokyo soon.

“Kamakura with Kind Kaneo was a great day!”
We very much enjoyed our time with Kaneo and had a wonderful tour of Kamakura and Enoshima with him. Kaneo planned a day that was smoothly paced and we got to see many highlights of places that he knew well. We learned more about the history and culture and had a fun lunch with him. And we got him to sing our family's theme song in the bamboo forest! We had to change the date of our tour just a week before and he was gracious and flexible and went out of his way to make it work for us. We highly recommend him if you are looking for a tour guide near Kamakura/Tokyo.

Thank you for your good and kind review. It was a good memory that I sang “Country Road” with your husband in a bamboo forest.

“Kaneo's excellent”
We worked with Kaneo to pick us up at our Tokyo hotel and help us navigate the 3 trains necessary to get to Hakone. It was a little more money, but much less stress. He had been very flexible in working with us to tailor his standard tour option to our circumstances, and his knowledge about the time and effort to do what we wanted was very helpful. We also had a chance to visit a woodworking craftsman's workshop at the end of the tour, and ended up buying a wonderful woodcut of Mt Fuji which now hangs on our wall. Highly recommended!

Thank you for a good review. It was my first experience to use a bullet train to Hakone. It was amazingly fast! When we left Hakone, you made me know we could see Mt. Fuji. It was a rare occasion to see it in the afternoon. I think the woodcraft you bought brought Mt. Fuji to us. Thank you again for giving me a wonderful time with you.

Tokyo,Now &Then
Tokyo is a modern metropolitan city built on an ancient Edo, where Tokugawa samurai government was settled. Even now we can find old relics of ancient Edo among truly modern Tokyo streets. Asakusa, Ueno and the Imperial Palace itself are some of the examples. Let’s explore Tokyo with me and find the soul of Japan.

Yokohama, Now & Then
Only a 30-minute train ride from Tokyo, you can reach the unique cosmopolitan city of Yokohama. Yokohama has two faces: modern and classical. In this tour you can enjoy a modern life at Minato Mirai 21 and a classical one at Yamate Heights and China town. MM21 is a national project, starting in 1984, to create a new city at its waterfront, suitable for the 21st century. Yamate Heights, an old European settlement on a hill, preserves beautiful European style houses.

Tokyo Hanami Tour
Cherry blossoms tell the start of Japanese spring. During cherry season, I will show you some of the best spots for "Hanami" in Tokyo. But the date of full blooming differs every year depending on the weather, which is hard to predict. Several predicting services compete in their predicting accuracy every year. Cherry blossoms usually start blooming late March and end at the beginning of April. They reach full blooming 7 days later. This year March 21.

Walking tour along an old Kamakura samurai road
Kamakura was the seat of the Bakufu (feudal government) from the 12th century to the 14th century. Many samurai warriors as well as commoners came and went. Kamakura is surrounded by mountains and they would walk across them. Unfortunately, with urbanization, almost all roads are now paved and widened. But you still can walk on the hill side. You can walk an old road between Yokohama (Mutsura) and Kamakura. This road is actually the same as the one used in the 12th century.
