Mount Ōyama Hiking Tour
This tour takes you to the 1252m tall Mount Ōyama located south-west of Tokyo. The hike starts in a quaint Japanese mountain village that leads up to the cable car station. Here we can choose to take the cable car or continue on foot. We will visit Ōyama Temple, nestled in the mountain forests. After ascending further up the mountain we will arrive at the Ōyama Afuri Shrine where we can enjoy beautiful views. After this you can choose between two routes, either to the top or an easier route.

Meeting Point
Isehara Station
- Isehara Station is a train station on the Odakyu Line about 55 minutes from Shinjuku Station. We will meet at the North Exit of Isehara Station where we will take the bus to Mount Ōyama. There are shops around the station if you want to buy drinks or food.
Mountain village
The bus ride is about 25 minutes which will bring us to the mountain village. To continue the tour we have to walk through this village to get to the cable car station or the hiking trail depending what you prefer. When walking through the village you can take some nice pictures and visit some of the souvenir shops offering traditional crafts and snacks.
Cable car station / Hiking starting point
Around 10:00 AM we will arrive at either the cable car station or the starting point of the hike. If you choose not to use the cable car there are two trails to choose from at this point. One is steeper than the other which makes it more physically demanding.
Ōyama Temple
Ōyama Temple is a Buddhist temple known for its beautiful leaves during autumn. Even during the other seasons it is worthwhile to visit for its architecture, statues, pond with carp, and more.
Afuri Shrine
After hiking another 30 minutes or a short cable car ride we will arrive at Afuri Shrine, one of the mountain's main sacred sites. This Shinto shrine has been a pilgrimage destination for over 2000 years but became especially popular in the Edo Period. On a clear day it is possible to have a nice view of Sagami Bay and even Mount Fuji.
Summit of Mount Ōyama
If you choose to take the route to the summit of the mountain we will arrive roughly 2 hours after departing from Afuri Shrine. Note that from Afuri Shrine there is no cable car anymore as the shrine is the last stop of the cable car.
There is also an option to take an other route which does not go to the summit. This route is easier on the body but just as beautiful with nice views and of course nature all around.
Afuri Shrine Cable Car Station
After climbing to the summit or the other route, we will arrive back at Afuri Shrine and its cable car station. Here we can take the cable car back to the mountain village or hike back.
Isehara Station
After taking the bus back we will arrive at the station where we met each other. This is where the tour will end and I will assist you if necessary to plan your route back to your hotel or other place you want to go to.
Ending Point

I have been a fan of Japan since a very young age and decided to study International Business so I could experience living here for a year. I came back for more many times and decided I want to live here as long as I can. After spending 3-4 years in Tokyo it was only natural for me to share this wonderful place with other people!
