08:30 AM

Ryugado (Dragon Cave)

Ryugado, known as the “Dragon Cave,” is one of Japan’s three major limestone caves.

Formed over hundreds of millions of years, the cave features impressive stalactites, underground streams, and traces of ancient human life.

In Japanese culture, dragons are water deities, and caves like this were once believed to be their dwelling places.

Walking through the cave offers a fascinating blend of geology, history, and mythology.

Optional Adventure Course at Ryugado Cave

An optional adventure-style course may be available at Ryugado Cave for guests seeking a more immersive experience.

This course requires a separate fee, which is set by the cave and confirmed individually depending on the date, group size, and conditions.

If you are interested, please let me know in advance and I will check availability and the exact cost for your tour date.

10:20 AM

Iokido (Hidden Forest Valley)

Ioki Cave is a narrow valley surrounded by cliffs and filled with moss, ferns, and clear flowing water.

While Ryugado reveals the underground world shaped over hundreds of millions of years, Ioki Cave offers a glimpse of Japan’s living forest landscape, where water, plants, and rock coexist in quiet harmony.

The short and gentle walk makes it suitable for most visitors, and together these two locations create a rich contrast between subterranean geology and vibrant surface nature.

11:30 AM

Local Lunch (Midday Break)

Enjoy a relaxed lunch at a local restaurant along the way, selected based on the day’s route and your preferences.

This is a chance to experience everyday regional food enjoyed by locals, using seasonal ingredients from the surrounding mountains and coast.

Simple, authentic local dishes

Flexible options depending on dietary needs

A comfortable break between nature and cultural sites

Lunch is not included in the tour price, allowing you to choose freely according to your taste.

Dietary Requirements

Please let me know in advance if you have any food allergies, dietary restrictions, or preferences (such as vegetarian, no raw fish, or no pork).

I will do my best to select a suitable local restaurant and adjust lunch options accordingly. While choices may be limited in rural areas, I always prioritize safety and clear communication with the restaurant.

12:30 PM

Choose One Final Destination After visiting the cave and forest, you can choose one of the following options:

>>>Option A – Local Onsen Experience

Umaji Village Onsen

Visit a small, rural hot spring in a mountain village known for its yuzu citrus.

This is a calm, local-style onsen experience that reflects everyday life in the Japanese countryside, rather than a large resort setting.

Choosing the onsen option, the reservation will be arranged by the guide in advance.

The onsen experience is provided as a 30-minute private family bath, offering a comfortable and private setting.

>>>Option B – Garden & Photography

Monet’s Garden Marmottan

A beautifully designed garden inspired by the works of Claude Monet, featuring seasonal colors, light, and carefully composed landscapes.

Easy and well-maintained walking paths

Excellent photo opportunities

Relaxing and visually pleasing experience

>>>Option C – History & Storytelling

Birthplace of Yataro Iwasaki

Visit the birthplace of Yataro Iwasaki, the founder of Mitsubishi.

The traditional house itself offers an authentic glimpse into everyday life in rural Japan during the 19th century, with its simple wooden structure and original layout. Even without detailed explanation, the house alone is enjoyable to explore, while guided storytelling reveals how a man from this humble setting went on to shape modern Japan.

Insight into Japan’s modernization

Strong narrative experience with guide explanation

Enjoyable through the architecture and atmosphere alone

Ideal for guests interested in history, business, or society

Ending Point

Kochi New Port, Airport, Kochi Station, or Any Hotel in Kochi City

Excellent guide in Kochi

This was by far one of the best tours we ever had! Hiroshi drove us around in a luxury vehicle! He also changed the original schedule to better suit our interests. We did some things we normally never would have done: we made our own paper, we ate Kochi-style tuna seared over a straw fire, and visited a botanical garden in the mountains. From Jan and Korina

Trip to Japan

Hiroshi M.

Jan and Korina, thank you so much for this wonderful review! It really means a lot to me. Hearing that you got to experience things you would not have found on your own makes me really happy. That kind of flexibility is what I love most about private tours, and I am always happy to show guests the places and people that only local guide knows. I hope to welcome you back to Kochi someday! Hiroshi

Amazing drive and walk along the Niyodo Blue River.

We had a very enjoyable day with our Guide - Hiroshi. Our best English speaking guide to date. We could communicate very well so a huge thank you because it is not always easy to understand each other all the time. Our stop at the Nagoya Chinkabashi bridge over the Niyodo River was a nice stop for the scenery and exercise walking across the river. Driving through the countryside with the beautiful cherry blossoms along the beautiful blue water river in the Yasui Valley which was very scenic and thrilling to see all the fresh water gushing on its way down the stream. We enjoyed some Kochi made ice creams after our walk along the beautiful river. The drinking water in the cafe was so good as was the ice cream! Later we had lunch at Hareta in Tosa City where we tried katsu-don and shogayaki-don and thoroughly enjoyed the local food. I bought a sweet treat in the store as a tasting experience which proved very nice. And at the end of the day we saw the cherry blossoms at the shrine in Hiroshi’s hometown of Usa, Tosa City. We would highly recommend Hiroshi and his very comfortable Toyota van for anyone who wanted a great tour guide and a very interesting day visiting Japan’s most beautiful river. Thank you. Susie, Rob, Hugh and Jilly/Sunshine Coast/QLD/Australia.

Dear Susie, Rob, Hugh, and Jilly, Thank you so much for your wonderful review! It was truly a pleasure to meet you all and spend the day exploring my beautiful home prefecture together. I am so happy to hear that our communication was smooth and that you felt comfortable throughout the tour. The Niyodo Blue is special, but seeing it paired with the cherry blossoms in the Yasui Valley—and finally at the shrine in my hometown of Usa—made it a truly spectacular day for me as well. I’m also glad you enjoyed the local food and even the water! Kochi's nature provides us with so many gifts, and I love sharing them with my guests. Thank you for choosing my tour and for your kind recommendation. I hope the rest of your trip in Japan is just as amazing as our day at the river. Please come back to Kochi again someday! Best regards, Hiroshi

An amazing trip to Ino and the Yasui Valley

Hiroshi met me at the Kochi Bus Terminal and off we went to our first stop, the Ino-cho Paper Museum. It's an amazing museum, full of information about the history of the manufacturing of washi paper. It has a wonderful workshop where visitors can make their own washi paper using traditional methods. It was great having Hiroshi as a guide as most of the displays were in Japanese. We then visited the Yasui Valley, following the Niyodo River. The river is amazing and Hiroshi timed our visit such that we were able to see the clear blue water that the river is famous for. The mountains were beautiful, and I learned much about the produce the area is famous for, Tosa tea. Back to Kochi, with a quick stop at Kochi Castle, and then Hirome market where we had Katsuo Tataki, seared skipjack tuna, and the best gyozas I have ever had. We ended the day, wandering Kochi's shopping street, visiting a small tea shop, which has been operating for three generations. The owner is a wonderful man who was happy to talk about the shop's history and the different types of tea in his shop. It's the one place where you can purchase Tosa tea. If you are ever in Kochi, Hiroshi is an excellent guide. He knows the area well, being local, and is able to tailor your tour to fit your interests.

Hiroshi M.

Thank you so much for your thoughtful and kind review! I truly enjoyed our day together. The weather was perfect that day and the Niyodo Blue looked absolutely stunning. It was a pleasure to share not just the famous sights, but also the local flavors and the stories of the people who make Kochi so special. I’m so glad you enjoyed the interaction at the tea shop and, of course, the gyozas! Knowing that you had such a meaningful experience makes my work as a guide truly rewarding. You are welcome back to Kochi anytime, and I hope our paths cross again in the future. Best regards, Hiroshi
