Kochi New Port, Airport, Kochi Station, or Any Hotel in Kochi City
- Kochi New Port, Airport, Kochi Station, or Any Hotel in Kochi City - I offer a convenient door-to-door meet-up service using a luxury Toyota Alphard. I can meet you at any of the following locations: Kochi New Port (Cruise Ship Terminal) Kochi Ryoma Airport (KCZ) JR Kochi Train Station Any hotel or accommodation within Kochi City Please inform me of your preferred meet-up location and time in advance. I will be there to welcome you and start our Kochi adventure in comfort.
Doi Kachu Samurai District (Aki City)
Step into the past as you walk through the peaceful Doi Kachu district in Aki City—one of the best-preserved samurai neighborhoods in Kochi.
Lined with white-plastered walls, black wooden gates, and stone-paved streets, this area once housed middle-ranking samurai of the Tosa domain.
Some of the homes, such as the former Hamada family residence, are open to the public and offer a glimpse into daily life during the Edo period.
Unlike popular tourist spots, Doi Kachu remains quiet and authentic, making it a perfect place to experience the atmosphere of old Japan.
Birthplace of the Founder of Mitsubishi, Yataro Iwasaki
Visit the humble thatched-roof home where Yataro Iwasaki, the founder of the Mitsubishi Group, was born in 1835.
Located in Aki City, this preserved residence offers a look into his early life and the modest beginnings from which he rose to become one of Japan’s most influential industrialists.
Ekingura (Ekin Museum)
Step into the dramatic world of Ekin, a local painter from the late Edo period known for his vivid and sometimes shocking theatrical artworks.
Whether you’re an art lover or a cultural explorer, Ekingura offers a truly unique glimpse into Kochi’s creative past.
Lunch at a Local Restaurant
Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant between stops. Recommendations include fresh bonito tataki, seasonal seafood, or countryside-style teishoku meals.
If you have any dietary restrictions or preferences, please let us know in advance — I will do our best to find a suitable place for you.
Bentenza Kabuki Theater (depending on availability) or Katsurahama Beach
If the schedule allows, we may be able to visit Bentenza, a beautiful kabuki theater located right next to the Ekingura museum in Akaoka.
Please note: There is no live performance.
This is a cultural visit focused on the building’s unique architecture and historical features.
The guide will show you around the interior of the theater, including the wooden audience seating, dressing rooms, rotating stage, and hidden passageways beneath the floor.
If the theater is open and not in use for local events, you may even have the rare chance to enter from backstage and walk up onto the stage, just like an actor in the Edo period.
However, Bentenza is occasionally closed due to private events or rehearsals, and access cannot be guaranteed in advance.
In that case, we will instead visit Katsurahama Beach, one of Kochi’s most scenic spots, where you can enjoy panoramic ocean views and take photos with the famous statue of Sakamoto Ryoma, a beloved hero of the Meiji Restoration.
Whether it's the historical charm of Bentenza or the natural beauty of Katsurahama, this part of the tour offers a special look into Kochi’s culture and identity.

“A dream came true”
It has always been a dream of my father’s to go to Tsuno Town, a small village in Kochi with about 5 thousand people, where his ancestors came from before immigrating. Since it’s a place only accessible by car, we were searching options to take us there from Kochi and found Hiroshi-san’s personalized tour. It couldn’t have been a better experience. He is a gentle soul, safe driver and absolutely in love with Kochi itself. After paying respects in the grave of our ancestors, he showed us some beautiful sights of Kochi and took us to have lunch where we could experience local cuisine and buy plenty of souvenirs. Hiroshi-san speaks very good English and is extremely friendly. We couldn’t have asked for a better guide! Thank you for helping us make this dream come true, me and my family will definitely come back to stay longer next time!

Thank you very much for your wonderful review! It was a true honor and a privilege to be part of such a significant journey for your family. Assisting in fulfilling your father’s lifelong dream of visiting his ancestral roots in Tsuno Town is a memory I will cherish as a guide. Standing by as you paid your respects at the family grave was a deeply moving moment, and I am glad we could make this return to Kochi a reality for all of you. I am also delighted that you enjoyed the scenic drive to the highlands, our local cuisine, and found some great souvenirs to take back to Brazil! Your family's warmth and kind spirit made the day truly special for me as well. Please know that you are always welcome back in Kochi. There are still many hidden gems I would love to show you next time! Wishing you and your family a safe journey home and all the best. Warm regards, Hiroshi

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience with us! It was a wonderful day at the Niyodo River, and I am really glad you enjoyed the beautiful locations along the way. The Niyodo Blue is truly special, and it means a lot to hear that you felt that too. Your kind words about my knowledge of Kochi and Japanese history are very encouraging. I always try to share not just the sights, but the stories behind them. I hope you continue to enjoy the rest of your Japan cruise, and I would love to welcome you back to Kochi someday! Best, Hiroshi

“Great visit in Kochi”
Hiroshi was an absolute gem and we were fortunate to have him as our guide in Kochi. He is both charming and full of knowledge and history about his hometown. He not only showed us the major highlights but also shared a few of the “off the beaten path” places I’m sure few have gone to as tourists. We made a friend in Japan who we would be fortunate to meet again. Jeff & Marcia
