The castle is located in the center of Kyoto city and designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1994. It was originally built in 1603 as the official Kyoto residence of the first Tokugawa Shogun,Ieyasu. Nijo Caslte is one of the finest examples of early Edo period and Momoyama culture in Japan, as it makes splendid use of early Edo period building designs, lavish paintings, and carvings that Iemitsu generously commissioned. In 1867, when Yoshinobu, the fifteenth Tokugawa Shogun returned soverignty to the Emperor, the caslte became the property of the Imperial family. Inside Ninomaru Palace Yoshinobu summoned the coultry's feudal lords and declared that soverignty would be restored to the Emperor. There are two Japanese gardens. You can enjoy the bearutiful scenary.

“Day tour Kyoto”
We had a wonderful family visit with our 2 kids today with Toshiyo on our first day in Kyoto visiting Bamboo Forest and temple, golden paviljon, impérial palace and Nijo castle. We had plenty of historical explanations about the visited monuments and had plenty of time and attention when wanted. We could also ask any question to Toshiyo which was great for our first time visit in Japan.

“Wonderful tour with Toshiyo ”
My family had a great time touring Kyoto with Toshiyo. She was knowledgeable and very helpful throughout the tour. We have two kids and Toshiyo was very nice and both with the kids and adults. From seeing monkeys to the bamboo forest to seeing multiple temples, we had an action packed tour! When we were tired (it is hot out there in June!) Toshiyo helped us quickly find a restaurant with AC to cool down and rest. She also gave us advice on other sites to see after the tour. She helped make our first day in Kyoto a great one.

Thank you very much for having me as your guide. Although it was hot and humid, no rain today. I am very glad you enjoyed my hometown, Kyoto. Hope to have many good memories here. Arigatogozaimashita!

“Cultural tour of Kyoto. ”
We discussed what we would like to see and she tailored the tour to our needs. Amazing city. We kept a few things to see ourselves in the days to follow. Don’t expect to see all the sites and temples in one day. The Japanese gardens at the temple was highlight. Highly recommend.
