Meeting Point
Gion-Shijō Station/ Kyoto Minami-za Theatre.
- I will meet you in front of the Oldest Kabuki theater (Minami-za) in Japan.
Minami-za Kabuki Theater
Start your journey at Minami-za, Kyoto’s historic Kabuki theater and one of Japan’s oldest performing arts venues.
Founded over 400 years ago, it marks the birthplace of Kabuki. The theater’s elegant façade faces Shijō Street, at the entrance to Gion, Kyoto’s most famous geisha district.
A great photo spot to begin the tour and an introduction to Kyoto’s traditional entertainment culture.
Gion District & Geisha Alley
Walk from Minami-za into Hanami-koji Street, the heart of Gion, where you can admire traditional wooden teahouses (ochaya) and perhaps glimpse a maiko (apprentice geisha) on her way to an evening performance.
This is one of Kyoto’s most atmospheric areas — beautifully preserved and especially magical around sunset.
Stop briefly at Gion Corner or Kennin-ji Temple.
Ninenzaka/ Sanenzaka
Ninenzaka (二年坂)
Ninenzaka, meaning "Two-Year Slope," is a gently sloping, stone-paved street in Kyoto’s Higashiyama district, near Kiyomizu-dera Temple. Lined with traditional wooden buildings, it’s a scenic spot filled with cafes, souvenir shops, and local crafts. It's a beautiful place to experience Kyoto's historic charm.
Sanenzaka (産寧坂)
Sanenzaka, or "Three-Year Slope," is the continuation of Ninenzaka and is slightly steeper. It shares the same traditional atmosphere and is also lined with historic shops and eateries. According to local legend, tripping here might bring bad luck for three years—so walk carefully!
Kiyomizu-Dera
Kiyomizu-dera is one of Kyoto’s most famous and historic Buddhist temples, founded in 778 AD. It is best known for its large wooden stage that juts out from the main hall, offering stunning views of the cherry blossoms in spring and autumn foliage. The temple’s name means “Pure Water Temple”, derived from the nearby Otowa Waterfall, where visitors drink for health, longevity, and success. Kiyomizu-dera is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a must-visit for its spiritual, cultural, and scenic appeal.
Fushimi Inari Taisha
Fushimi Inari Taisha is a famous Shinto shrine in Kyoto, Japan, dedicated to Inari, the deity of rice, prosperity, and business. It is best known for its thousands of bright red torii gates that form winding paths up Mount Inari. Founded in the 8th century, the shrine is a popular spot for both worshippers and tourists. Along the trails, you'll also find many fox statues, which are considered Inari's messengers. Fushimi Inari offers a unique spiritual experience and some of the most iconic photo spots in Japan.

“Great tour and guide for our first day in Osaka!”
Atif was truly a wonderful guide for our first full day in Osaka. He was patient, attentive and effortlessly adjusted to make the tour meet our group's needs without us even having to ask (i.e. one of our group members was having difficulty with the amount of walking and Atif quickly communicated alternate routes we could take to limit the amount of walking and kindly reassured us that we could take our time and rest as needed). Atif showed us so many sights and insights within a short time, giving us a great snapshot of the city while tailoring stops to the interests we shared during booking. He treated us with the utmost care, took the best photos of us and shared in making some great memories and having great laughs with us. He was so fantastic that we would have loved to immediately book him again for our Kyoto tour this week - if only he had availability! We 100% recommend choosing Atif for your tour needs.
