The Ultimate Kyoto Day Trip: Arashiyama & Kiyomizu Temple
Experience the very best of Kyoto in a single day, featuring the famous Arashiyama and Kiyomizu Temple areas.
This itinerary was handcrafted by my mother, who was born and raised right here in Kyoto. It covers all the "must-see" landmarks while also leading you to hidden gems away from the crowds.

Meeting Point
Saga-Arashiyama Station(nearest station to Arashiyama)
Arashiyama bamboo forest
Daigo Temple
This temple was built about 700 years ago by Emperor Go-Daigo.
He was like the Donald Trump of his time—a bold leader who broke traditions with unconventional policies and established a whole new government in Japan. As we enjoy the beautiful temple and its gardens, I’ll tell you more about his colorful and rebellious life.
Sweet and souvenir crawl in Arashiyama
Let’s explore some local Japanese sweet shops and souvenir stores in Arashiyama.
Actually, one of my relatives used to work at this particular sweet shop! I hope you truly enjoy these authentic Japanese flavors.
Nishiki market
Next, we’ll leave Arashiyama and head toward downtown Kyoto.
Ponto-cho Photo Op!
Ponto-cho is a very narrow alley, but it’s packed with quintessential Kyoto charm. It’s also a bit of a hidden gem with fewer tourists. Let’s snap some beautiful photos of the traditional streetscape!
Exploring Tatsumi Bridge & Hanamikoji
Let’s take the scenic route through the quieter backstreets. We’ll soak in the timeless atmosphere of Kyoto’s traditional cityscape.
If we’re lucky, we might even spot a Maiko (apprentice Geisha) gracefully passing by!
Yasaka Shrine
Maruyama Park
Enjoy cherryblossoms
Explore around Kiyomizu Temple
Kiyomizu Temple
Ending Point
around Kiyomizu Temple

About Tour Guide Atsushi T.
Hello, I’m Atsushi.
I grew up in Osaka, a city famous for its warm people, delicious food, and lively culture.
Until last month, I worked for five years as a softwear engineer. Now, I’ve shifted to what I truly enjoy—working closely with people. Alongside private tutoring and mental health counseling, I am excited to guide travelers through my home region.
“Make your once-in-a-lifetime trip to Japan even more unforgettable.”
That’s my mission as your guide.
With me, you can explore historic landmarks, or dive into the city’s soul through food—whether it’s a casual street-food crawl or hidden local favorites. Since I grew up here, I can take you beyond the usual tourist spots to restaurants and shops that locals actually return to again and again. I’d like to introduce a place that will make you want to come back.
On hot summer days, I’ll show you comfortable underground passages and indoor attractions. When the weather is just right, we can enjoy the city outdoors to the fullest.
Guests often say my tours feel like being guided by a friend who knows the city inside out—fun, relaxed, and authentic. I want you to experience Osaka not only as a visitor, but as someone who feels at home here.
And one more thing: 10% of my earnings are donated to organizations that support single-parent families (Save the Children).
Let’s make your Japan journey something truly special together!

“Good kid, not great as a historical guide though. ”
Atsushi drove us everywhere we wanted to go, which made the trip very convenient and flexible. He was friendly, accommodating, and willing to adjust the itinerary based on the places we wanted to visit, including a few locations he visited for the first time with us a couple of days ago. One of the highlights was definitely his food recommendation, the place he suggested in Kyoto was excellent, and this is clearly one of his strengths. If you are looking for someone to take you around comfortably and point you toward good local food spots, he does that well. That said, he seemed to know very little about the history, cultural significance, or background of many sights in Kyoto. Even for some of the more well-known Kyoto locations that he regularly takes visitors to, there was only rudimentary information provided. It appeared that his experience is more centred around Osaka, with only a basic familiarity with parts of Kyoto. He was willing to take us wherever we wanted to go, which we appreciated, but the experience would have been greatly improved if he had put a bit more effort into learning about importance Kyoto and various sights / locations have in Japan before guiding visitors there. For travelers looking for historical or cultural insights during the tour, that is something to keep in mind.

“Osaka Tour”
Despite the heavy rain, we had such a great experience on the Taste & Tradition: A Half-Day Journey Through Osaka tour with Atsushi. He truly made the best of the weather and still gave us an amazing introduction to Osaka. From showing us Osaka Castle, guiding us through the local market, and introducing us to one of Osaka’s staple dishes, to ending the tour with a treat at one of the best ice cream spots. everything was thoughtful and enjoyable. Atsushi was incredibly patient, kind, and accommodating throughout the tour. His positive attitude and hospitality really stood out and made the experience memorable. Highly recommend this tour, especially with Atsushi as your guide!

Thank you so much for such a heartwarming review! I'm thrilled that you enjoyed the tour despite the heavy rain. Honestly, you were absolutely wonderful guests, and your positive energy made it so easy to make the best of the weather! I had a great time showing you around Osaka Castle, exploring the local market, and sharing some of Osaka’s soul food (and that amazing ice cream!) with you. Reading your kind words really made my day. Thank you again for choosing to spend your day with me. I would love to welcome you back to Osaka anytime—hopefully with clearer skies next time! Warmly, Atsushi

“Evening tour of Osaka”
Atsushi brought his wife with him for our tour, and she actually was very nice and did most of the talking about what we were seeing. We were looking for something that would show us Osaka by night, and we were able to accomplish this. We had wanted to wander and try street food, k expecailly "oko", but Atsushi misunderstood and we ended up eating at a restaurant, which took up about half the time.

Atsushi T.
Dear John, Thank you very much for writing a review. I really appreciate your honest feedback. I am so sorry for the misunderstanding about dinner. You wanted to walk around and try street food like okonomiyaki, but we ended up spending a lot of time at a restaurant. That was my mistake, and I am sorry you missed out on the experience you were looking for. I also accept your criticism about my guiding. I am glad that you were still able to enjoy the night views of Osaka, though. My wife also says thank you and sends her best wishes to you both. I want to learn from this experience to improve myself. From now on, I will make sure to check exactly what my guests want to do and eat before the tour, and I will work hard to be a better guide. Thank you again for helping me notice what I need to fix. If you ever come back to Osaka, I would love the chance to guide you again and show you the best street food! Warm regards, Atsushi
