First we visit Masaoka alley across Sendai station. There are Japanese style bars and also modern standing bars.
Next We can enjoy atmosphere of old japan at Iroha alleys. There are more than 100 small stores such as bars, restaurants and unique select shops in this narrow alley.
And finally we visit alleys of Kokubuncho, the largest night entertainment district in Tohoku, Northeast region in Japan.
There are about 3000 restaurants and bars in this area.
What kind of bar do you want to try in Japan? a Izakaya, a Japanese traditional bar, a modern standing bar or an international bar...??? Let’s see how Japanese people enjoy those bars.
I love sake and will provide some great conversation and company! It would be nice to discuss my region, Japanese culture and trandition over a cup of sake!

We met as planned at the time agreed and had a lovely day out together. Mai was friendly and helpful and found many things in common with us to make great conversation. Mai had helped find suitable places to visit including shrines a restaurant and boat trip. Mai had lots of useful historic stories to tell us as we travelled around. At the end of the day Mai waited with us till we got on our hotel coach. She even chased after it to flag it down for us. A day worth remembering. Mai also sent on photos of our group - a good record of the day. Jim, Catherine and Jet
This was a custom tour that Mai and I put together as I had done some research and had an interest in seeing both places in a day. The first was Geibikei, a ride on a flat-bottom boat though a gorge which was enhanced as we took the ride during the peak fall color season. The second part was a visit to Hiraizumi, a UNESCO World Heritage site and the two main attractions, Motsuji temple (and its garden) and Chosunji temple. Mai was essential as she figured out the logistics for being able to see all the sights in one day. Also, the narration for the boat ride was in Japanese, so Mai's translation allowed us to appreciate what we were seeing. We also enjoyed the restaurant Mai picked for lunch as it was unique. NOTE: this wasn't a typical tour from Sendai as it's further away and required a couple taxi rides (due to infrequent trains), so there were higher transportation costs. It was great that Mai was flexible in creating a custom tour for us based on our input.
Sean san thank you so much you wrote a lot for me!! you already researched a lot about places you want to go so it was really helpful for me to organize tours. Thank you for wonderful 4days and hope we can meet again in the future!
If you will be touring Matsushima for a day, do it with Mai! She is friendly, knowledgeable and her passion for relating the cultural aspects shone through. We appreciated that she customized the tour based on our interests. That being said, Matsushima is amazing to visit and we packed a lot of things into the day (temple and garden tour, boat cruise, visited 3 islands, lunch, a museum and food sampling) that we wouldn't have been able to do without Mai as our guide. It was a long day as we stayed on after our tour to view the night illuminations (recommended by Mai) at the temple and garden there … and they were spectacular!
The Sendai Walking Tour was the first of several days of tours with Mai as our guide. This tour is a good way to orient yourself to the city and see the main areas near the train station. Mai was an excellent guide. She shows us areas (such as a small shrine) and provided context that we would not have known if we were exploring on our own.
