Experience one of Nagasaki’s most impressive natural sights with a visit to the powerful whirlpools at Saikaibashi, where fast tidal currents collide in a narrow strait. This scenic shore excursion also features panoramic hillside views at Glover Garden, a local seafood lunch popular with residents, and a reflective walk through Nagasaki Peace Park. It is a well-balanced day that combines nature, history, and everyday local life at a relaxed and comfortable pace.

09:00 AM

Meeting Point

Nagasaki International Cruise Ship Terminal Building 2

- I will be waiting outside the exit after you leave the terminal building’s security area. There will be many other guides in the area, but I will be holding an iPad with a welcome sign, so you should be able to recognize me easily.

Estimated travel time to next location: 1.5 hour including Megane Bridge

Megane Bridge - a quick stop

The Spectacles Bridge (Meganebashi Bridge) is an iconic stone bridge that perfectly reflects in the river like a pair of glasses.

-Admission Fee: Free

10:30 AM

Saikaibashi Park Walk Deck

Saikaibashi Park Walk Deck offers a dramatic view over a narrow strait where powerful tidal currents collide. This is a boundary between calm local bays and the open sea, creating natural whirlpools (uzushio) during tide changes. An easy way to imagine it is as a “local-scale version of the Strait of Gibraltar.” While the Gibraltar Strait is about 14 km wide, this strait is only about 0.3 km across, making the currents far more concentrated. The result is an intense, close-up display of swirling water and fast-moving tides—an impressive natural phenomenon you can safely enjoy from above.

- Estimated stay time: 40 minutes

11:10 AM

Estimated travel time is 20 minutes

11:30 AM

Nanatsugama Limestone Cave

Nanatsugama Limestone Cave is a hidden natural wonder formed over thousands of years by underground water slowly carving through rock. Inside, visitors walk along illuminated paths surrounded by dramatic stalactites and stalagmites, some shaped like flowing curtains or frozen waterfalls. The cool air and quiet atmosphere create a refreshing escape, offering a mysterious and peaceful experience close to nature.

- Admission fees: 800 JPY (Per Adult)

12:30 PM

Lunch Time: Recommended Seafood Restaurant

I have several recommended seafood restaurants in mind, and I will take you to the best option based on our timing and how the day unfolds.

01:30 PM

Scenic Coastal Drive along Nagasaki’s Ria Coastline

Enjoy a scenic drive along Nagasaki’s beautiful ria coastline, where winding roads follow the sea and reveal ever-changing ocean views. The gentle curves of the bays, small fishing villages, and quiet harbors create a peaceful atmosphere unique to this region. Simply relax, watch the sparkling water, and take in the landscape at an easy pace — a refreshing way to experience Nagasaki beyond the city center.

02:40 PM

Peace Park Nagasaki

A peaceful green park and one of Nagasaki’s most recognizable landmarks. Many visitors like to take a photo with the iconic Peace Statue as a memory of their trip.

- Estimated stay time: 30 minutes

- Entrance fees are free.

03:10 PM

Estimated travel time is 20 minutes

03:30 PM

Nabekanmuri Park

Nabekanmuri Park is a quiet hilltop viewpoint overlooking Nagasaki Harbor and the surrounding city. From here, you can enjoy wide panoramic views of the sea, ships, and mountains that shape this beautiful port town. It’s a perfect final stop to slow down, take a deep breath, and capture one last memorable photo — a simple, peaceful way to end your day in Nagasaki.

About Tour Guide Katsu N.

Hi, I’m glad you found my page!

I’m a local guide based in Kyushu who loves sharing the region’s history, food, and landscapes in a relaxed and friendly way. Think of me as someone who can make your trip comfortable and memorable, while keeping things easygoing and fun.

I began guiding to share the history, scenery, and food of my home with visitors from around the world. Before this, I worked in luxury retail, where I learned how important details and genuine hospitality are. Now I bring that same spirit to my tours, making sure every guest feels comfortable, cared for, and free to enjoy their journey.

I specialize in private car tours around Kyushu, so you don’t have to worry about train schedules or carrying luggage. We can stop where you like, take things at your own pace, and enjoy the scenery along the way. Onboard you’ll have free Wi-Fi, music, and a comfortable ride—perfect for families, couples, or friends who want both convenience and a touch of luxury.

Some of my favorite places to share are:

Nagasaki: Peace Park, Atomic Bomb Museum, and the city’s cultural blend

Fukuoka: Dazaifu Shrine, city highlights, and Yanagawa’s river cruise with eel dishes

Kumamoto: Mt. Aso’s volcanic views, Kumamoto Castle, and Kurokawa Onsen

Oita: Hita’s riverside town, plus Beppu and Yufuin hot springs

Saga: Arita’s ceramics and the Yoshinogari ancient site

Takachiho Gorge: A mystical canyon tied to Japanese legends

What I enjoy most is helping guests discover both famous sights and hidden corners of Kyushu, while keeping the experience comfortable and stress-free. Whether you’re drawn to culture, food, history, or beautiful scenery, I can adjust the plan to match your style.

I’d love to share my part of Japan with you and create memories that last long after your trip. If you have any questions or requests, please feel free to send me a message. I look forward to welcoming you to Kyushu and showing you what makes this region so special!

Reviews

Professional and Caring

Katsuhisa was extremely professional and communicative throughout our trip. He kept us updated on weather conditions and checked in about preferences before our journey began. Despite our very ambitious itinerary - which includes about 6 hours of driving in a single day - Katsuhisa fulfilled all of our requests with a positive attitude and no complaints. We were also traveling with our 2-year-old, and Katsuhisa took extra care to ensure our little one was comfortable and happy. At the end of our trip, Katsuhisa even surprised us by buying a thoughtful adorable gift for our child. We truly appreciate how Katsuhisa made our trip extra special. Joining his tour was definitely the highlight of our time in Japan.

Thank you very much for your warm and kind review. I am truly grateful for your thoughtful words, and I am delighted to hear that you were satisfied with the tour.///Under Japanese road traffic regulations, child seats are required in private vehicles and rental cars, so I am glad that having one prepared was helpful during your trip.///I was also pleased to hear that your child was able to enjoy the tour comfortably. Traveling with a young child can involve many considerations, but I am happy that your family was able to enjoy the journey together in a relaxed and pleasant manner. I also have a family member who works as a childcare professional, and I benefit greatly from their advice in situations like these.///Kyushu Island still has many wonderful places to explore, and I would be very happy to welcome you again in the future.///Warm regards,///Katsuhisa

Exploring Kyushu off the beaten track

We were interested in the period between 1850 to 1900 during Japan modernization as well as exploring the beautiful Kyushu geography. Katsu did a lot of research to make sure we went to Hagi castle as well as some of the houses of the Samurai who helped in the revolution. He also made sure we had a great lunch within our dietary guidelines. We used translations on occasion to augment his English

Hi Jack and Jennifer,/// Thank you very much for posting the review. And regarding the language, my apologies for the light mistakes. /// Hagi and Taketa are not areas I usually cover, and since my major was geography, I did my best with the research. However, some of the historical terms did not fully stick in my head, so I may have caused some inconvenience. However, I believe there were no language issues in places like Mt. Aso and Takachiho, so I would appreciate your understanding. /// I will continue in my reply to the Nagasaki tour review.
