Meeting Point

Pickup at your hotel (Fukue Island)

- Most of churches and museums open at 9am, so hopefully pick up and greet around that time in the city center, Fukue area.

09:30 AM

Dozaki church

The most iconic church in the island.

Inside is the museum in which they display multiple items that Hidden Christians used for the religious activities.

Approx. 1hour

11:00 AM

Kusuhara persecution site and church

The spot of the biggest persecution, and the church dedicated for the martyrs.

Physically a tiny building but history-wise the most impactful place.

Mainly the guide would share what has happened here and hopefully have a time for a short prayer.

Lunch

Enjoy local foods in Goto!

The island is known for food heaven, especially local fish are the best!

Most of local restaurants in this island are open irregularly, so the guide will arrange the reservation.

Please let me know allergies and any requests.

Optionally I can prepare a quick lunch box too.

Fuchinomoto graveyard and explore Miiraku area

Fuchinomoto: where Hidden Christians rest in peace.

The area is full of breathtaking scenery, the best spot for watching sunset.

Miiraku: one of the biggest christian community in this island.

Another persecution site, graveyards and the church nearby.

Some of the spots are literally hidden that probably most of people wouldn't even be able to find.

Approx.1-2hours

Drop off at your hotel

Most of sites close at 5pm.

After that, the roads start to get really dark (literally no street lights!).

So I'd like to take you back to the hotel around that time, considering the safety.

Sunset time: 5pm in winter, 7pm in summer.

From the last spot to city center, it takes about an hour.

Tour Important Information

* This tour is NOT in the mainland Nagasaki, the guests need to get to Fukue island by themselves.

* This tour involves a lot of walking, so make sure to wear comfortable shoes.

* This tour is not recommended for those with severe back/knee problems.

* Please let me know in advance if you have any food allergies or other dietary restrictions.

* Please let me know if you are more than 5 people.

* The tour may be canceled due to weather conditions.

I'm open to more flexible or customized tour, so let me know if you have any requests or questions!

Regularly either on Saturday or Sunday morning, I have Bible study.

This is relatively easy to fix depending on the tour schedule, but I might not be able to guide consecutively on these two days.

One day for a full-day tour and the other for a half day tour is possible.

There are only few people who are the descendants of Hidden Christians, and I'm trying my best to put meeting with them in the tour.

This totally depends on their schedule so please let me know as early as possible if you wish to.

Important message from the supplier

I do multiple things for living (Music producer, cook, spearfisher, interpreter, etc).

Some days might not be available because of that.

On the other hand, I will try my best to be as flexible as possible for you.

My strong point is, having local connections and multiple experiences/skills above and putting it together to make very unique tours.

About Tour Guide Yuki S.

Hi there, I'm Yuki. Originally from Tokyo, moved to Goto islands , Nagasaki in 2019.

I'm a christian (protestant), and that brought me to live here, the island with the history of Japanese hidden christians.

I'm passionate with meeting new people from different backgrounds, which is why I have multiple types of businesses(a mucician, a chef, a spearfisher, an interpreter, and a guide).

I'm probably a typical islander who is easygoing, relaxing, and enjoy doing multiple things based on the random things happening in this island.

Before we settled down here, my wife and I have traveled over 30 countries for 2 years with a crowdfunded project.

I'm also a learner of multiple languages, Italian (conversational), Spanish and Korean(novice).

I try to be as flexible as possible, based on guests' requests.

I could guide other than Goto, but in that case I would have to ask guests to cover my transportations fee(as you may not know, from/to Goto islands-Nagasaki city, it takes 1-3 hours by ferry or airplane.)

“Great Introduction to Hidden Christian Story With a Great Guide”

Yuki-san is a knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and caring guide! He has a meaningful understanding of the Hidden Christian story on Fukue as well as the other Goto Islands and the Nagasaki mainland. He is willing to be flexible. He paid significant attention to me and learned in real-time to accommodate some needs even before I asked. He cared a lot about my experience in addition to the basic itinerary goals. He suggested transportation, lodging, and dining options. He is ready to consider a custom tour on request. And for me visiting from the US, I was very impressed with his English skills! he is genuinely fluent. Our conversations were completely fluid. He also easily navigated the Japanese language barriers that I would have had on my own. I would not hesitate to have him guide me again and I would highly recommend him!
