Nagasaki excursion: Glover's Garden, Dejima and Atomic Bomb Museum
We will meet at a specified location (cruise harbor, hotel, or train station), and will go to Peace Park and visit the Atomic Bomb Museum. Next, we will visit Dejima, a place that served as Japan's only access to the outside world for more 200 years. Then, we will visit Meganebashi Bridge or have lunch at Shinchi Chinatown. After that, we will visit Glover's Garden, a colorful place that contributed to Japan's modernization in the late 19th century.
Itinerary
This itinerary can be customized to meet your needs and preferences. Send me a message with your requests!
Meeting Point
Nagasaki Port (or your preferred location)
- Nagasaki Port Matsugae International Terminal, or your preferred location, such as Nagasaki train station or outside your hotel
Peace Park and Atomic Bomb Museum
We will visit Peace Park, an iconic place that symbolizes the world's wish for a lasting world peace. It is also a nice spot for taking lots of photos, especially during the cherry blossom season. From there, we will walk through the atomic bomb's hypocenter (ground zero) and visit Nagasaki's Atomic Bomb Museum. It takes about one hour to visit the entire museum.
Dejima
Dejima is a 400-year old artificial island where Japan and the Western World traded goods and exchanged knowledge for 200 years, throughout the Edo period when the rest of Japan was closed to the entire world, as imposed by the Shogun military rulers. By the way, you can also rent kimonos at Dejima, this is a good opportunity to take stunning photos of yourself in traditional Japanese attire.
Meganebashi Bridge (or lunch at Shinchi Chinatown)
Here, we have two options: we can either visit Japan's oldest double-arch stone bridge (a famous landmark known as Meganebashi Bridge, built by a Chinese priest in 1634), or we can also have lunch at Shinchi Chinatown and enjoy Nagasaki's unique cuisine.
Glover's Garden
Glover's Garden is a colorful garden and former residence of Thomas Glover, a Scottish merchant who helped propel Japan's late-19th century industrial revolution through coal mining, shipbuilding and modernization. From Glover's Garden, you get a stunning view of Nagasaki Bay, you can also take photos among the flowers, feed Japanese carps, experience a Japanese garden and buy all sorts of souvenirs, both within the premises and all along the street outside.
End of the tour
Since Glover's Garden is at a walking distance from Nagasaki Port Matsugae International Terminal, I can walk you to the terminal, or instead, you can also enjoy more time by yourself browsing all the souvenir shops that line up from Glover's Garden's exit all the way down to the street that you finally cross to board the ship. * If you prefer another location to end the tour, we can also arrange our schedule accordingly.
