Meeting Point
Kintetsu Railway Nara Station
- Please meet me at "Kintetsu Nara Station", just outside the ticket gates at "the East Exit." If you arrive by train, follow the signs for “East Exit” after leaving the platform. Once you pass through the ticket gates, go toward the East Exit and come outside the station. I will be waiting just outside the ticket gates. Please do not go to "JR Nara Station" — our meeting point is at Kintetsu Nara Station, which is closer to Nara Park and Todai-ji.
Nara Park
Nara Park is famous for its beautiful temples, peaceful forests, and, of course, its free-roaming deer.
The deer have been considered sacred messengers of the gods at Kasuga Taisha for more than a thousand years. Today, they freely roam the park and often approach visitors.
Visitors can feed them *shika senbei*, special rice crackers made for deer. If you hold one up, they may even bow to you!
Nara Park is more than just a place to see deer. It is a unique place where Nara’s ancient history, nature, and everyday life come together.
Japanese Landscape Garden ー Isuien or Yoshikien
One of the styles of Japanese landscape garden that developed in Edo Period is the stroll garden surrounding a pond.
It is to be enjoyed while taking in the varied sights to be found around the pond. Isuien, whose name itself means "garden along the water" is expressly designed for savoring this pleasure.
Todaiji Temple
Step inside one of the world’s largest wooden buildings and meet Japan’s Great Buddha. Built in the 8th century to unite the nation through Buddhism, Todai-ji still inspires awe today.
Learn why this massive temple was constructed, how it survived fires and wars, and discover hidden details most visitors miss. Friendly deer roam nearby, creating a uniquely peaceful atmosphere blending nature, history, and spirituality.
Mount Mikasa
This gentle grass-covered hill offers one of the best views in Nara and a fascinating local tradition. Every January, the entire mountainside is set on fire during the dramatic Yamayaki festival.
Discover the legends behind this event, enjoy panoramic scenery, and meet the deer roaming freely at the foot of the mountain. It’s a peaceful spot where nature, history, and local culture come together.
Kasuga Taisha Shrine
Walk through a mystical forest to reach this sacred shrine famous for its glowing lanterns.
Founded over 1,200 years ago by the powerful Fujiwara clan, Kasuga Taisha blends spirituality with nature. Hundreds of stone and bronze lanterns line the path, creating a magical atmosphere.
Discover why deer are considered sacred here and learn the connection between Shinto beliefs and Nara’s ancient history.
Lunch in Local Restaurant
Enjoy a special lunch at one of Nara’s renowned restaurants specializing in "Kakinoha-zushi", a traditional local delicacy.
Sushi is carefully wrapped in fragrant persimmon leaves, a centuries-old technique that reflects Nara’s unique food culture and history.
Dining is more than just a meal—it’s an opportunity to slow down, savor an authentic taste of Nara, and experience a culinary tradition that has been passed down through generations.
Exploring in Naramachi Town
Step back in time as you wander through narrow streets lined with traditional merchant houses. Naramachi preserves the atmosphere of old Japan, with hidden courtyards, small craft shops, and local cafés.
Discover how merchants once lived, enjoy local sweets or matcha or Japanese Sake, and experience everyday culture beyond famous temples.
This relaxed district offers a perfect contrast to Nara’s grand historical sites.
