What to Expect

Murakami city is located in the northern part of Niigata Prefecture.

The city was flourished during the Edo period as a castle town governed by the Murakami clan.

It is famous for "鮭-sake-salmon", "酒-another sake-Japanese sake", "Tsuishu" lacquer ware, Machiya houses, Murakami beef, Murakami green tea,

Hina doll festival and more!

In this tour we visit several must-see places in this diverse city.

1.Kikkawa: A shop selling salmon products. You will be surprised to see so many dried salmons hung from the ceiling of the shop.

2.Taiyo Sake Brewery: You can sample some of its products like "Taiyozakari".

3.Machiya houses open to the public ( some of them are shops selling salmon products, green tea, blacksmith, restaurant and so on.

4.Iyoboya Kaikan (salmon museum): You can learn why Murakami city became famous for salmon.

Murakami city has succeeded in preserving old-style Japanese houses and you can enjoy the nostalgic atmosphere it produces.

It is mostly a walking tour(about 3-4 km) and we may use loop bus or taxi accordingly.

You can take Uetsuhonsen line from Niigata to Murakami, about 1-hour by local train.

Amazing day full of a variety of sights

My tour with Fujiko-san was fantastic! She is a great guide - friendly, knowledgeable and always making sure her customers are enjoying their tour. She was very flexible when setting the itinerary, taking into account all of the places I wanted to see and my interests, resulting in a large variety of sights throughout the island. She knows a lot about Sado Island and it was so interesting to hear all about the different places we went to! I had a great time with her and definitely want to visit again to see many more sights on the island! I would recommend having Fujiko-san as your guide if you are thinking of visiting the island. Thank you again Fujiko-san!

Hello, Nancy san Thank you very much for writing such an encouraging review of the tour! It was a bit busy tour since we only had 6 hours but I'm happy that you've enjoyed almost to the fullest. But we have much more to offer in Sado and I'm looking forward to guiding you in the near future. Fujiko

Thoughtful and pleasant tour experience

We spent one day on Sado Island with Fujiko. She was engaging and informative as we drove through different regions of the island, toured a sake brewery, took a tub boat ride, met a nationally famous sword craftsman, and enjoyed a nice local lunch. My only regret was that the island needs more than one day and we weren’t able to spend more time. I highly recommended her as an excellent guide, with superior English skills.

Hi, Beth san Thank you very much for writing such a wonderful review of the tour. Yes, many tourists think Sado is small but it is not true. I recommend to stay at least one night on the island to visit places of your interests! I didn't want to rush you but we skipped one more place so I hope you to come back and we can do more activities including meeting local people or just walking in local community. Please stay healthy and happy and see you again! Fujiko

Fujiko an amazing & awesome tour guide

My friends & I loved our Sado Island trip! Fujiko made it more fun & we look forward to going back again. She treated us like family. She is a very knowledgeable tour guide, enjoyable, friendly & caring. The day of our tour the weather was very windy & rainy. Fujiko was able to shuffle our itinerary & we were able to continue on with our tour. We did taiko(drumming), rode the tarai-bune(tub boat ride), visited famous sake brewery, & toured fishing village. We also had time, so she took us to a favorite crab market & got to eat the most succulent, sweetest, & packed with meat Sado Island crab, thanks to Fujiko!!! It's a must to eat while visiting on Sado Island. I also wanted to see the ume blossoms & Fujiko gave us directions to get to a park to view the ume blossoms & so beautiful! We Highly recommend Fujiko-san for your Sado Island vacation!

Hi, Donna san Thank you very much for writing such an encouraging review of the tour! Before the tour, I was a bit worried about the virus. But luckily we could visit most of the places according to your requests. Please come back again during harvest season and I will take you to the crab shop again, fruits farm and more! Sado Island has a lot more to offer. Please say Aloha to your wonderful friends. Looking forward to guiding you again! Fujiko
