Meeting Point
Your hotel in central Takayama
- I will pick you up at your hotel in central Takayama. If you would like to visit the Miyagawa Morning Market, we can enjoy a short 30-minute visit before departing. Otherwise, we will travel directly to Shirakawa-go.
Shirakawa-go Observatory and Village
Enjoy a panoramic view from the observatory and walk through the World Heritage village. Learn about Gassho-style houses, local history, and mountain life. We can also visit one traditional house if you wish.
Depart for Takayama
Relax during the drive back to Takayama. On the way, I will ask what you would like to eat and suggest suitable lunch options.
Lunch at a Local Restaurant in Takayama
Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant based on your preferences. Options may include Hida beef, soba noodles, sushi, ramen, or other local dishes.
Takayama Old Town and Cultural Highlights
Walk through Takayama’s historic streets and discover its history, culture, and local life. Depending on your interests and opening hours, we may visit the Old Town, Takayama Jinya, a sake brewery, local shops, or quieter side streets.

• Hotel pick-up and drop-off in central Takayama
• Private transportation Toyota Vitz or a suitable larger vehicle, depending on the group size, including gasoline, tolls, and parking fees.
• Lunch and drinks: around 1,000–3,000 yen per person
• Entrance fees for optional attractions: around 400–1,000 yen per person, per place
• Optional shuttle bus to the Shirakawa-go Observatory: 300 yen one way per person

Tour Important Information
* This tour can accommodate up to 8 guests. A Toyota Vitz will be used for 1–3 guests, and a suitable larger vehicle will be used for groups of 4 or more. Please contact me before booking if you have large suitcases.
* An early start, ideally at 8:00 AM or earlier, is recommended so we can visit Shirakawa-go before it becomes crowded. If you would like to visit the Miyagawa Morning Market before leaving for Shirakawa-go, please let me know in advance so we can adjust the starting time.
* The order and timing of the itinerary may change depending on traffic, weather, seasonal conditions, and opening hours. Heavy traffic or winter road conditions may significantly affect the itinerary. If an attraction, restaurant, or local facility is closed, I will adjust the itinerary or arrange a suitable alternative.
* This tour involves walking on slopes, steps, and uneven paths. Please wear comfortable shoes and let me know in advance about any mobility concerns, food allergies, or dietary restrictions.
* If you would like to start or finish the tour in Kanazawa, Toyama, or another city, please contact me before booking for a customized itinerary and price. Depending on the route, the order of Takayama and Shirakawa-go may be changed. For example, if the tour ends in Kanazawa or Toyama, we may visit Takayama in the morning and Shirakawa-go in the afternoon before continuing to your destination.

“Discovering Takayama with a True Local ”
Our trip to Takayama was truly memorable, largely thanks to George. “Wonderful day around!!”

He was very thoughtful and kind; he took us to beautiful sights and we did have an amazing experiences doing different things, meeting with locals and explaining all the history and cultural things to us. “A Fabulous Tour with Fabulous Guide ”
We had a fabulous time with George over 2 days exploring Takayama, Shirakawago and Kamikochi. We thoroughly enjoyed our time and our sons looked forward to going out with him. George was great at engaging our boys and giving them quizzes about the areas we visited. George was flexible and attentive to what we were looking for in our trip. The weather was a bit unpredictable and he kept his eye on the possibility of rain and communicated clearly about expectations. We were lucky with the weather and had a little misty day in Shirakawago, but dreamy beautiful weather in Kamikochi! Having a guide was so helpful. A bonus with George is that he is from Takayama he knew the area really well. Our biggest regret was only spending three nights in Takayama. We would have loved to explore more of the area. I would highly recommend booking George for your tour! The more time we spent with him, you could hear his English skills improve the more we chatted. I have no doubt that as he continues to guide he will become even more proficient.
