Hida no Sato Folk Village thatched village experience.
Head to Hida no Sato Folk Village-- the thatched village experience.
Hida no Sato/Hida Folk Village is an open air museum just outside central Takayama, showcasing traditional thatch roofed houses in Hida and across the Hokuriku mountain region.
The village is set around a quiet pond with forested hills in the background, creating a peaceful “old Japan” atmosphere that feels worlds away from the modern town. Inside the preserved farmhouses you’ll see original tools, hearths, and everyday objects that explain how people lived through long winters, farmed the steep countryside, and built homes designed to survive heavy snow. It’s one of the best places in Takayama to experience rural architecture up close, taking scenic photos, and getting a deeper sense of mountain life for the last 350+ years still continuing to today in many ways.
Sakurayama Hachimangu Shrine and River Sakura River Walk.
Sakurayama Hachimangu Shrine area to 350+ year old village.
A short cultural stop at one of Japan's God of War Shines to seasonal walk, with great photo moments especially in spring, and fall.
Takayama’s Old Town, AKA Sanmachi Suji: One of the best preserved Edo era merchant districts
Lined with dark wooden buildings, latticed windows, and old sake storehouses that once supported the town’s wealthy traders. The streets are compact and easy to explore on foot, with a steady mix of traditional craft shops, local snacks, small cafés, and beautifully maintained facades that feel especially atmospheric in the early morning or late afternoon right when we will arrive.
The same area is also famous for its sake, thanks to the area’s clean mountain water and cold winter climate—ideal conditions for brewing. Several breweries operate within walking distance of each other in and around the Old Town. If you fancy, you can sample small pours, browse limited seasonal bottles, and learn a bit about the brewing process, from rice polishing to fermentation. Even for guests who aren’t serious sake fans, it’s an easy and fun stop—more like a cultural tasting than a full brewery tour.
Ending Point
Takayama Stn Info Center / Conclude in front of the Takayama Jinya centre of the village / Guest's Hotel Entrance

Location Specific Notes
Expect High Volume
It's always a relaxing route that avoids most of the crowds.
Your guide is traveling to your location from Kanazawa City on the day.
In turn this is reflected in the listed total.
The tour price mainly covers guiding and planning.
If you prefer everything arranged in advance customized to a specific comfort, that can also be organized to your liking.
That is a cost feature you can request in the tour booking or request a customized tour that is more flexible, more cost effective and better catered.

A Note To Extraordinary Travelers
While I am based out of Kanazawa, I also offer guiding in nearby destinations with the same range of deep insights, activities and knowledge of local life for the last 300 years. These areas include: Shirakawa-go, Ainokura, Takayama, Matsumoto and various winter spots among others. All are within a two hour radius of Kanazawa city.
If you're interested in exploring beyond Kanazawa, I can also guide you outside the city for day or multi day trips as well with in local guidelines and best-practice protocols. I’ll help figure out the best way to make it happen!
• Considerations in Planning & Listings:
Pricing & Tour Planning Pertaining:
(Outer Kanazawa / Excursions / Unique Exp)
The below doesn't apply to any tours in Kanazawa City Walking Tours.
Tours on this platform show the full price in advance. When transportation, entrance tickets, or similar expenses are included in the booking, they become part of that listed total.
For that reason, many guests prefer to cover items such as train fares, taxis, parking, or admission tickets during the tour itself. This often keeps the price more reasonable and allows the day to stay flexible.
※ Please see the notes of this in the
“Included/Not Included” Section in the listings.
If you’d prefer everything arranged in advance, that can certainly be done as well and included in the booking.
Both approaches work well, paying day-of keeps costs closer to actual expenses, while including everything provides a fully arranged experience and prepayment as a whole.
Feel free to inquire about the tour you may be interested in or unique needs. I can assist and navigate the experience in mind with in the policy and guidelines here and in the area.

“Car tour around Kanazawa”
Lee was a perfect guide for us. Being a Canadian spoke excellent English and was able to present the Japanese culture from a foreigner angle. The whole trip was a highlight of our trip in Kanazawa.

“Kanazawa highlights”
We had a great full day seeing the sights of Kanazawa. Lee knew all the short cuts at the various locations, saving us steps and time. He was very knowledgeable about the history and culture of the area. It was hard to keep up, but he said it would make sense by the end of the day and it did. We would highly recommend Lee for any tour in Kanazawa.
