Hi! I'm Nobu, a local tour guide based in Osaka, offering tours in both Osaka and Nara! I was born in Japan but grew up in New Zealand, where I spent most of my life before eventually returning to Japan. Having experienced life in both countries, I understand how exciting, fascinating, and sometimes confusing Japan can be for international visitors! My goal is simple: to help you explore Osaka and Nara your way and create unforgettable memories! Whether it's your first visit to Japan or you've been here several times, I want you to feel comfortable exploring, asking questions, and discovering everything these wonderful places have to offer. My tours are relaxed, friendly, and conversational. There's no need to rush from one attraction to another! Want to stop for photos? Try some delicious local food? Explore a hidden alleyway? Or simply slow down and soak up the atmosphere? I'm more than happy to adjust the pace to suit you. And don't worry if you don't know much about Japan or speak Japanese! I'm always happy to answer questions, explain cultural differences, and help you feel more confident exploring. At the end of the day, this is your adventure, not just another sightseeing tour. I hope you'll leave with great photos, wonderful memories, new discoveries, and a deeper appreciation of Japan. Let's explore Osaka and Nara together!

Hello! I’m Toshi, your local insider and itinerary planner in Kansai. I’m new to GoWithGuide, but I’ve spent over 35 years helping people enjoy life’s most meaningful moments in beautiful places. For decades, I was a destination wedding photographer in San Francisco. My clients came for the photos, but they remembered the whole experience: carefully planned journeys around historic City Hall and the city’s hidden viewpoints, with every detail handled so they could relax. From 2016 to 2018, I led the Canon KelbyOne Worldwide Photowalk, guiding groups of up to 20 along scenic San Francisco routes to support the Spring of Hope Kenya Children’s Home. Today, I bring that same warm hospitality, careful planning, and eye for beauty to Osaka, Kyoto, and all of Kansai. Why travel with me? A local’s eye for the special: I’ll take you beyond the landmarks to quiet side streets, the best viewpoints, and the everyday Japanese life most visitors walk past. Smooth, stress-free days: After decades of managing tight schedules for international clients, I’ll handle the trains, the timing, and the details so your day feels relaxed. Tailored to you: Family, couple, or solo, we’ll build the day around your interests and pace, whether that’s history, food, temples, or hidden neighborhoods. A photographer’s instincts: I won’t run a photography lesson, but I always know where the light is best. I’m happy to point out a great spot or take your picture along the way. Early start for photographers: Every tour offers an optional early start for the best morning light at the first stop, potentially before most visitors arrive: Fushimi Inari’s torii gates, Arashiyama’s bamboo grove, or Osaka Castle’s grounds before the tower opens at 9:00. I can’t guarantee empty sites, especially in peak seasons and on weekends and holidays. Let’s skip the crowded, cookie-cutter routes and plan a day in Kansai that shows you Japan’s true soul. Send me a message, and let’s start planning!

“Touring with a Star”

We took four "tours" on our trip to Japan, and our day with Nicolas was the standout! Nicolas curated the perfect day for us to combine our interests, the important sites, and our pacing. The stops we made, including refereshments and lunch, were perfect and memorable. The information he provided us about the history behind the locations was fascinating. Having VIP transport was a bonus that helped greatly with some mobility limiations. Nicolas was on top of every detail and absolutely charming. I highly recommend booking a tour with him.

“Wonderful day with Michiko”

We had a wonderful day with Michiko in Nara. She was polite, patient and charming despite our children’s’ changing moods. We particularly enjoyed a lovely traditional lunch spot and a very special calligraphy lesson, where she was very encouraging. We loved learning about Buddhism and Todaji temple and saw sides of Nara we wouldn’t have discovered without her. Thank you Michiko for looking after us and showing us Nara through the eyes of a local, we had a wonderful experience.
