Discover the highlights of the Kamakura area, once the center of Japan’s samurai rule from the late 12th century to 1333. While relatively stable, this period also faced two Mongol invasions as well as earthquakes, epidemics, and famines, which shaped society. During this time, Kamakura Buddhism spread among both samurai and common people. Today, its legacy lives on in Zen temples, historic shrines, and spiritual traditions. Enjoy peaceful gardens, vibrant streets, and coastal views.
