Meeting Point
Kamakura station
- Please take the east exit of Kamakura station (JR line) and go to the tourist information center (Turn left after ticketing gate). I will wait in front of the entrance. If you have any trouble to find out meeting point, please send me a message.
Zushi Marina / Wakaejima
Our journey continues with a stroll through Zushi Marina, one of the most picturesque waterfront resorts near Kamakura. Surrounded by hundreds of palm trees and luxury yachts, the marina offers a unique atmosphere that many visitors compare to Southern California or the Mediterranean. It is a popular destination for photography, relaxation, and enjoying beautiful views of Sagami Bay and Mount Fuji on clear days.
From here, we look toward Wakaejima, visible from the coast of Zaimokuza Beach. Built in 1232 during the Kamakura period, Wakaejima is recognized as Japan’s oldest artificial harbor. It was constructed to support maritime trade and transportation, helping Kamakura thrive as the political center of Japan under the samurai government. Although much of the harbor is now submerged, parts of its stone foundations can still be seen at low tide. Wakaejima is an important historical site that reminds us of Kamakura’s strong connection to the sea and its role as a gateway for commerce and cultural exchange more than 800 years ago.
Hiroyama Park
Next, we will enjoy a relaxing walk through Hiroyama Park, one of the best scenic viewpoints in the Shonan area. Located on a hill overlooking Sagami Bay, the park offers breathtaking panoramic views of the coastline, Enoshima Island, and, on clear days, majestic Mount Fuji rising beyond the sea.
Originally, this area was part of a military observation site due to its strategic location. Today, it has been transformed into a peaceful public park where visitors can appreciate both nature and history. As we stroll along the walking paths, you may notice a variety of local plants and birds, creating a tranquil atmosphere far removed from the busy city below.
One of the park’s unique attractions is its small animal enclosure, where visitors can see peacocks and monkeys. From the observation deck, take a moment to enjoy the spectacular scenery and imagine how sailors, fishermen, and travelers have viewed this coastline for centuries. Hiroyama Park is a hidden gem that beautifully combines natural beauty, local history, and unforgettable views of the Shonan coast.
Hayama Shiosai Park
Our next stop is Hayama Shiosai Park, a peaceful seaside garden located beside the Hayama Imperial Villa, one of the residences used by the Imperial Family. This unique location gives the area an atmosphere of elegance, tranquility, and exclusivity that has attracted visitors for generations.
As we walk through the beautifully landscaped Japanese garden, you will experience the harmony between nature and traditional design. Carefully arranged ponds, stone lanterns, pine trees, and seasonal flowers create a serene setting that reflects the Japanese appreciation for beauty and balance. The garden invites visitors to slow down, observe the changing seasons, and enjoy moments of quiet reflection.
The park also offers stunning views of Sagami Bay, where the sea and garden blend seamlessly into the surrounding landscape. Because of its proximity to the Imperial Villa, the area has long been associated with refinement and relaxation. Standing here, it is easy to understand why Hayama became a favorite retreat for members of the Imperial Family. Hayama Shiosai Park provides a wonderful opportunity to experience both the natural beauty of the Shonan coast and the timeless elegance of Japanese garden culture.
