Meeting Point
Kochi New Port, Airport, Kochi Station, or Any Hotel in Kochi City
- I offer a convenient door-to-door meet-up service using a luxury Toyota Alphard. I can meet you at any of the following locations: Kochi New Port (Cruise Ship Terminal) Kochi Ryoma Airport (KCZ) JR Kochi Train Station Any hotel or accommodation within Kochi City Please inform me of your preferred meet-up location and time in advance. I will be there to welcome you and start our Kochi adventure in comfort.
Okawasuji Samurai Residence or Makino Botanical Garden
You can choose either of these two spots. During seasons such as summer or winter, when there are fewer flowers, the Okawasuji Samurai Residence is highly recommended.
However, please note that the Samurai Residence is closed on Wednesdays — in that case, we will visit the Botanical Garden instead.
The Okawasuji Samurai Residence is a beautifully preserved samurai house from the Edo period, offering a glimpse into the life and architecture of the samurai class. Inside, visitors can see tatami rooms, elegant wooden interiors, and historical artifacts that reflect the lifestyle and aesthetics of Japan’s feudal era.
Located on Mt. Godaisan, the Makino Botanical Garden honors Dr. Tomitaro Makino, known as the father of Japanese botany. This spacious garden features over 3,000 plant species, scenic walking paths, and seasonal flower displays. Visitors can enjoy both nature and science while learning about Dr. Makino’s life and Japan’s rich botanical heritage.
Kochi Castle
Kochi Castle is one of the few original castles in Japan with its main keep, palace, and gates still intact. Built in the early 17th century, it served as the seat of the Yamauchi lords and offers panoramic views of the city. Walking through its wooden interiors and climbing the stone steps is like stepping back into the time of the samurai.
Hirome Market
Hirome Market is a lively food court and local hangout where you can sample a wide variety of Kochi’s regional dishes all in one place. From freshly seared katsuo no tataki to local sake and street food, it’s a perfect spot to experience Kochi’s unique food culture. Grab a seat, order from different stalls, and enjoy the festive, communal atmosphere.
Obiyamachi Shopping Arcade
Obiyamachi is Kochi’s main shopping street—a covered arcade lined with local shops, cafes, and souvenir stores. It’s a great place to find regional products, try Japanese snacks, and enjoy the atmosphere of a traditional downtown shopping district. Perfect for a casual stroll between sightseeing spots.
Chikurinji Temple
Chikurinji is a peaceful Shingon Buddhist temple located on Mt. Godaisan. It is one of the 88 pilgrimage temples of Shikoku and is known for its beautiful five-story pagoda, tranquil moss garden, and deep spiritual atmosphere. Founded in the 8th century, it offers a glimpse into Japan’s ancient religious traditions and a serene break from the city.

“A Perfect Day and Tour of Kochi”
Hiroshi provided us with truly excellent guide service during our Japan cruise stop in Kochi. He was waiting for us in the cruise port terminal to drive us and guide us through a perfect itinerary including the fascinating and picturesque Chikurinji Temple and five-story pagoda, the world-class Makino Botanical Gardens, a lunch of local delicacies in Hirome Market, and the famous Kochi Castle History Museum and climb to the Keep of Kochi Castle! Hiroshi’s command of English and clear pronunciations was a relief to us. And we were delighted to discover that he is an excellent photographer so he captured many wonderful digital memories for us throughout the day. If you’re going to Kochi and want a professional tour guide, then Hiroshi is your man!

Thank you so much for your kind and generous review! It really made my day. I'm so happy that you enjoyed Chikurinji Temple, Makino Botanical Garden, Hirome Market, and Kochi Castle. Even with the rain in the morning, you both embraced everything with such a wonderful spirit. That made the day truly special for me as well. I also appreciate your kind words about my English and photography. Taking photos for my guests is one of my favorite parts of the job, so I'm really glad the pictures became good memories for you. Your advice and stoty about guiding during the tour was something I will always remember. Thank you for sharing that with me. I hope our paths cross again someday! With warm regards, Hiroshi

“Wonderful day with Hiroshi”
We enjoyed a wonderful day with Hiroshi, while we were in Kochi Japan. He met us with a very luxurious van that could easily accommodate for guest and my wife, and I had it all to ourselves. Begin the day with a tour of the botanical garden, which was outstanding. If you're visiting Japan in the spring, you want to visit discard. Just magnificent (and I'm not a flower guy). Spectacular views looking at the city. He then took us to an original samurai house, which is definitely off the beaten path and a place where tour buses do not go. He even brought along his samurai sword, allowing us to take pictures with different poses. we then visited Kochi Castle. My knees are not so good, so he took us on the sloping path, rather than attempt the stairs. He could not have been more accommodating all day. Highly recommend choosing Hiroshi for any of his tours.

Thank you so much for this wonderful review! It means a lot to me that you enjoyed the day. The botanical garden was especially beautiful that morning — the south garden had just reopened after a renovation, and we were there on the very first day. Perfect timing. The samurai house is one of those places I always love to include. It is quiet, it is real, and it is the kind of experience you simply cannot find on a group bus tour. For guests with knee concerns or mobility needs, I always plan the route carefully. Kochi Castle has both stairs and a slope, and I make sure we choose the right path from the start. Everyone deserves to enjoy the castle comfortably. I design every tour around my guests — their pace, their interests, and what makes the day feel special for them. That is what private guiding is all about. To be honest, I had a wonderful time too. You were such warm and kind people, and days like this remind me how much I love my work. I hope to welcome you back to Kochi someday. Hiroshi
