[May-November] Mt.Fuji 5th station, a short hike of Ochudo & Okuniwa

The Ochudo, also known as Middle Road, was a special trail for ascetic practitioners that circled Mt.Fuji at the level of the fifth station. The trail is adorned by beautiful flora such as Japanese larch, Rhododendron, and Lingonberry and offers a majestic view of Mt.Fuji.
The trail continues to Okuniwa, as Inner Garden which used to be a lateral crater. As it is named, pine trees and volcanic rocks create artistic landscapes by all nature.

Ochudo & Okuniwa Trail
The Ochudo trail starts from the 5th station. After 1.5 hours of walking, it reaches Okuniwa and loops for more 1 hour. The trail is covered by volcanic gravels but well maintained. It is almost flat but around 50 meters down the slope or steps to Okuniwa.

“Shimizu Highlights”
Had a wonderful time with Moto despite the inclement weather. It was disappointing not to be able to see Mt. Fuji, but Moto was creative and resourceful in finding interesting and enjoyable alternatives for us.

We had an enjoyable and highly informed tour of Shimuzu. We got a special look at Mt Fuji and all sorts of accompanying information. We were given a detailed understanding of the life of Tokugawa Ieyasu and of the shrine where he is said to have been buried. We couldn't have asked for a better guide. We highly recommend Moto and the tour he took us on.

“Great Private Cruise Excursion”
Moto made our day in Shimizu really enjoyable. He is so friendly and has so much knowledge and experience of Mt Fuji. He also arranged a private tea ceremony for us at a family-owned tea house taking us away from the crowds. I was traveling with my parents who are older and needed additional assistance amid Moto made sure to arrange a vehicle and the day around their abilities. This tour takes you more closer to Mt.Fuji, visiting Fujinomiya, which is 30km east of Shimizu port. This city is located on the southern foot of Mt.Fuji, being away only 20km from the top.
