Meeting Point
Tobu Nikko Station
- Our meeting point is Tobu Nikko Station. You can take a direct limited express train from Asakusa to this station, and the ride takes a little less than two hours. Please keep this in mind when you tell me what time we will meet. If you need help buying the train ticket in advance, I can assist you. There is also JR Nikko Station nearby. If you prefer to meet there, please tell me before the tour.
Sacred Bridge - Shinkyo
Shinkyo Bridge is a beautiful red bridge at the entrance of Nikko. It is part of the World Heritage area and is one of the most famous bridges in Japan. In the past, only the emperor and priests could use it. Today, you cannot cross the bridge, but for about 300 yen you can stand on it and take photos.
Toshogu Shrine - Shintoist Shrine
Toshogu Shrine is a famous Shinto shrine in Nikko. It is the resting place of Tokugawa Ieyasu, the first shogun of the Tokugawa family. The shrine is very colorful and has many beautiful carvings, including the famous ‘see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil’ monkeys. During the visit, we will also explain Japanese views on religion and the difference between Shinto and Buddhism. Toshogu Shrine is one of the most important places to visit in Nikko.
Lunch time at a local restaurant
We will have lunch at a local restaurant. I will tell you the restaurant options, so please contact me in advance. If you decide before the tour, I can also make a reservation at the restaurant. During lunch, you can ask questions about Japan. If you do not have questions, I will talk about our life, society, and many other things.
