About Tour Guide Tateo U.

My name is Tateo. I am officially registerd English tour guide and introducing about Okinawa's history, culture, and nature.I am elderly person but have gone through lots of expericences that happened during US occupation after WW2. For the example, change of monetary system(US dollar to Yen),Change of traffic regulation(driving vehicle from right to left). The reversion of Okinawa to main land Japan was biggest historical event. The US administered Okinawa for 27 years. As a result, thing were Americanized in many aspects. Historically, Okinawa was once independent nation until 1872.During Kingdum era, Okinawa actively traded with China, South Asia Countries, Korea, and Japan. In the end, our culture is quite differ much from main land Japan. For instance, architectural technique, daily customs, and culture are also unique. Okinawa is the only prefecture belong to subtropical climate zone. Even winter time, it's neither hot nor cold. People can enjoy marine sport all through the year.Canoeing, Kayaking, Diving, and Snorkeling are popular.

Besides, beatiful white sand beaches and attractive coastline are abundant. Green sea water and blue sky have been lured people from all over the world. Traditional music and dance are worth seeing. Please visit Okinawa and enjoy extraordinary trip. I will be looking forward to seeing you soon.

Reviews

Beyond expectations

We had Tateo guide us around Okinawa on 10/13/25. He picked us up at our hotel in Naha and customized our tour per our requests that morning. He is gracious, polite and most professional in every way. We went to see a pottery making village, wonderful beaches, beautiful views, local cuisine for lunch, souvenir shopping and even an awesome Okinawan Karate kaika museum with amazing martial arts history. He even recommended eateries for dinner before returning us to our hotel. We highly recommend giving Tateo a try. You’ll be glad you did.

I was really impressed by your love for the beaches. Luckily, the weather was on our side and sea water beaches were all beautiful. I also enjoyed it together. The fireworks at the NAHA FESTIVAL were also spectacular. I hope this tour will stay in your hearts forever. Finally, thank you for writing a nice review. Regards Tateo U.

Best of Okinawa and Nostalgia Tours

Our tour with Tateo was outstanding! It went beyond our expectations and was the highlight of our trip to Asia! As a native of Okinawa, Tateo was the best guide we could’ve imagined getting for our tour. He expertly explained things. Listened and responded to all our questions and made us comfortable throughout our tour. Day 1 we saw key sights including Shuri Castle, Okinawa World, Shikinaen Park, the Peace Memorial Museum, and the Japanese Navy underground tunnels. We enjoyed the caves and were profoundly affected by the Cornerstone of Peace at the Peach Memorial Museum and the testimonials of those who survived the destruction and slaughter of over 230K people during the Battle of Okinawa in WWII. I even found family namesakes on the Cornerstone of Peace. The underground tunnels were amazing to experience as it was clear how brutal battle conditions were during the war. Tateo pointed out Hacksaw Ridge which we quickly went home and watched the true story of Desmond Doss single handedly saving 75 wounded soldiers without carrying a gun during WWII. Day 2 was the most important day of my trip. Tateo took me to find places that I remember as a child in the 60’s. He researched places that I was searching for and put together a wonderful day of finding and explaining what happened to each of the places. He brought me to the hospital where my brother was born and wonderfully suggested that we see if they could find his birth certificate. Tateo arranged to have the Head of School at my school allow me to look at archived materials. I found my 1968 yearbook photo, along with photos of my classmates! Tateo took me to a dept. store and shopping center that hadn’t changed much in 54 years. I remember my parents walking with me! The shopping center even had a museum in it! I saw the old A&W Root Beer where we used to go. We looked for my house and the Pizza House. We found the location and area. I was so happy! This tour was everything that I had hoped for! Thank you Tateo!

First, your review reminded me of our time on tour together. The places we visited together were places and stores that I often visited and use to shop at. I participated in the tour with the same feelings as you. I hope that the stores you went to with your parents 50 years ago still exist and the school you attended will remain as nice memories in the future. I hope you will use these wonderful memories of Okinawa as motivations to do your your best in America. Please come to this island some day and make new memories. Thank you for writing a great review. Regards Tateo U.

Couldn’t ask for a better guide

I want to thank Tateo for the best experience I ever had with a personal tour guide around this wonderful island. Tateo was so awesome on our first tour we booked him 2 days later for another tour to explore other parts of the island. Tateo goes above and beyond and you can see the passion within him of what he does to make this experience for others unforgettable. Those 2 days together will always be with me and once again thank you. If you want to explore and learn the fascinating facts of this beautiful island, culture and sights, Tateo is your man.

Both of 2-day tours had to be booked the day before, which was a tight schedule. However, I think we were able to fully explore the best both southern and northern Okinawa. We were really blessed with good weather and the color of the sea seemed even more beautiful. I hope this tour will be a good memory for you forever. Thank you for your positive evaluation. give my best regard to your friend. Regards Tateo U.
