Oya History Museum (Oya Shiryokan)
Begin your tour by stepping into the vast underground world of the former Oya stone quarry.
Its cathedral-like chambers, carved entirely out of Oya stone, offer a breathtaking look at the region’s geology and craftsmanship.
Oya-ji Temple
Visit Oya-ji, home to Japan’s oldest stone-carved Buddhist statue, created over 1,200 years ago.
Set among dramatic rock formations, the temple provides a peaceful atmosphere and a glimpse into ancient spiritual traditions.
Peace Kannon Statue (Heiwa Kannon)
Next, meet the 27-meter-tall Peace Kannon, carved directly into the cliff after World War II.
This gentle guardian watches over the valley and has become one of Oya’s most iconic landmarks.
Oya Grand Center
The Oya Grand Center is a renovated former ruin transformed into a modern, creative space. Here you can enjoy stunning views of the Oya landscape, explore Oya stone art, and relax at its café and restaurant—all in a stylish setting that reflects the unique character of the Oya district.
Lunch in Oya
For lunch, you can choose between a traditional soba restaurant serving handmade buckwheat noodles, or a cozy Italian restaurant offering fresh, local ingredients with a modern twist. Both are popular spots where you can relax and enjoy the flavors of Oya.
Futaarayama Shrine
In the afternoon, we return to central Utsunomiya to visit Futaarayama Shrine, a historic spiritual site considered the birthplace of the city.
Enjoy a stroll through its sacred grounds and take in the calm, traditional atmosphere.
Gyoza for a Snack
After the shrine visit, experience one of Utsunomiya’s most beloved specialties—gyoza.
Whether you enjoy them as an afternoon snack or a full dinner, the city’s famous dumplings are the perfect way to end your day.
Try a variety of styles, from crispy pan-fried to soft boiled gyoza, at one of the many specialty restaurants in town.

“Wonderful! Kind, flexible and thoughtful! Amazing with kids! ”
We had an absolutely wonderful day in Nikko, and so much of that was because of our amazing guide. She was kind, patient, thoughtful, and incredibly accommodating from beginning to end. We were able to see so many beautiful places, including Lake Chuzenji, Kegon Falls, Toshogu Shrine, and Rinnoji Temple, as well as a natural history museum. She made the entire day feel completely seamless, and we never had to worry about figuring out transportation, timing, or where to go next. Having a guide took so much stress out of the day and allowed us to simply enjoy being together as a family. What meant the most to me was how wonderful she was with my son. She was so patient with him and made sure the experience was interesting and fun for him, too. At one point, he dropped a toy, and she was so kind and genuinely happy to help me run back and forth trying to find it. It was such a small moment, but it really showed me what a caring person she is. She never made us feel like we were inconveniencing her or that we needed to hurry. She helped make our day in Nikko one of the most enjoyable and memorable parts of our trip. We saw incredible places, learned so much, and were able to experience everything without the stress of navigating it all ourselves. We are incredibly grateful for her kindness and patience and would wholeheartedly recommend her to anyone visiting Nikko. If you are traveling with children, I especially cannot recommend her enough. She made us feel comfortable, cared for, and truly welcomed.

“Gorgeous Hotsprings, Lakes and Waterfalls”
Ryoko took us on a magical journey through the volcanic backcountry of Nikko. She showed us the boiling sulphur springs, beautiful lakes set in picturesque landscapes and majestic waterfalls as well as the shrines and temples along the way. Transportation was organized flawlessly by her ahead of time and we got everywhere we intended to go quickly and smoothly. Even some rainshowers could not put a dent in the day as she was well prepared and kept us dry. Her in-depth knowledge of the area showed when she explained the detailed culture and traditions behind the spirit world celebrated at the temples, shrines and waterfalls. Learning about the Dragon Head Falls was particularly impressive. After the tour we wrapped the day up sharing an excellent Japanese meal during which Ryoko taught us some more about Japanese dining culture and the local specialty yuba. Days like this one are the kind that form memories we carry a lifetime. We can highly recommend Ryoko and her wonderful services as well as the Nikko area.

“UNESCO World Heritage Site in Nikko”
The site is impressive and a living display of cultural heritage. Ryoko took us on an amazing personalized trip through the temple and shrine of Nikko and explained the rites and history in wonderful detail. She took great care in making the trip fun as well as educational, all while taking exceptional care of us on a personal level, too. Nikko, trip to popular spots and the spot of odd sight
Nikko has been a well-known center of Shinto and Buddhist mountain worship since Toshogu was built in 1617 and Nikko National Park continues to offer scenic, mountainous landscapes, lakes, waterfalls. However, there are still many unfamiliar places of odd sight in Nikko. One of them is Kanmangafuchi abyss. This trip is to visit not only popular sight-seeing spots but also spot of odd sight. If you follow the Daiya river, you will reach a small gorge called Kanmangafucchi Abyss.
