Mt.Fuji 5th station, a short hike of Ochudo & Okuniwa

The Ochudo, also known as Middle Road, was a special trail for ascetic practitioners that circled Mt.Fuji at the level of the fifth station. The trail is adorned by beautiful flora such as Japanese larch, Rhododendron, and Lingonberry and offers a majestic view of Mt.Fuji.
The trail continues to Okuniwa, as Inner Garden which used to be a lateral crater. As it is named, pine trees and volcanic rocks create artistic landscapes by all nature.

Ochudo & Okuniwa Trail
The Ochudo trail starts from the 5th station. After 1.5 hours of walking, it reaches Okuniwa and loops for more 1 hour. The trail is covered by volcanic gravels but well maintained. It is almost flat but around 50 meters down the slope or steps to Okuniwa.

We were lucky to have a very sunny and clear day for our Mt. Fuji tour. Moto is a great guide. Very friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating. He met us at the Shimizu port and took us to great viewing sites of Mt Fuji. He even took us to a local park with no tourists and the view was breathtaking. The falls were beautiful and he took us for lunch at a small local Japanese restaurant where the hostess was very gracious and the food good. It was an incredible and very enjoyable day with Moto as our guide. We highly recommend Moto and his Mt Fuji tour.

This tour takes you more closer to Mt.Fuji, visiting Fujinomiya, which is 30km east of Shimizu port. This city is located on the southern foot of Mt.Fuji, being away only 20km from the top. For going to and from there, we can take the local railways, which must be a fun experience, too.
