Cupnoodles Museum Yokohama
The Birth of a Global Revolution
The Cupnoodles Museum Yokohama is where you can discover how ramen transformed into a global food in the 20th century. Rather than just history, this museum focuses on the importance of creative thinking and the spirit of innovation.
You will learn the story of Momofuku Ando, who invented the world’s first instant ramen, and see how his "never give up" attitude changed the way the world eats. You can also experience the actual methods and processes of how instant ramen is made, making it a truly interactive journey into the future of food culture.
Chinatown
Explore the historic gateway where "Ramen Culture" first entered Japan. About 170 years ago, Yokohama became the first international port to fully open to the world, following a period of over 200 years of limited international trade. As a hub of new exchange, Chinese residents settled in this area and formed what has become one of the world’s largest Chinatowns.
With over 600 restaurants and shops in this vibrant district, you can discover a vast array of noodle dishes. This is the perfect place to enjoy a lunch that reflects the authentic, traditional origins of this beloved soup and see how the roots of today's ramen were first planted here.
Shin-Yokohama Ramen Museum
Established in 1994 as the world’s first ramen-themed amusement park, the Shin-Yokohama Ramen Museum invites you to "time-slip" into a beautifully recreated 1958 streetscape. This was the era when Japan’s modern ramen culture began to flourish.
Here, you can witness how a simple street food evolved into a sophisticated art form across the nation. By tasting the incredible diversity of regional flavors, you will understand the deep connection between local ingredients and Japanese society. For those who want to dive deeper, you can even experience the authentic process of ramen creation as an optional workshop.
