This tour explores what supports the hearts of Japanese people and Aomori locals. We visit Seiryuji Temple to understand Buddhist views of life, death, silence, and prayer, then a Shinto shrine to learn how people celebrate, give thanks, and pray. After that, we enjoy Nokke-don at Furukawa Fish Market and visit WA RASSE to experience Nebuta as a festival, folk tradition, and source of pride. *Transportation fees are not included. Hirosaki City - The Original Castle Keep
Hirosaki has many attractions, such as the thousands of ancient cherry trees, surrounding the castle and is Japan’s biggest apple producer. There are about 50 apple-pie restaurants. Hirosaki grew up around its castle, protected by Shinto Shrines to the north and Buddhism temples to the south-west. “It was a pleasure to travel with Tomohiko as our guide!!”
This is our second visit to the port of Aomori. On our adventure with Tomo, we enjoyed visits to temple where one of our group was able to accompany the musicians by playing a koto. Tomo was a great guide and we visited the famous Big Buddha as well as enjoying a hot spring in a Zen Garden and we relaxed our feet in the warm water. We dined at a authentic Japanese restaurant and devoured the ramen. Our last venture was to the famous Warrase Museum were the Aomori Nebuta Festival floats are displayed. We would highly recommend Tomohiko for future tours. He will be guiding us again tomorrow in Hakodate, our last port of call.

“Aomori Beyond the Tourist Stops”
We had such a great day with Hiro! He put together a custom itinerary for us that included a Tsugaru lacquerware experience at Neputa Village in Hirosaki, a stop at Niji-no-Mart, Tsuyu Yakisoba in Kuroishi, and a sake tasting at Narumi Sake Brewery. We ended up having some extra time, so Hiro took us to an additional museum that wasn’t even on the original itinerary, which was a really nice bonus. Hiro is super laid-back and just goes with the flow, which is exactly what we like. He’s really knowledgeable and showed us places and introduced us to foods that we probably never would have found or tried on our own. It felt much more like exploring Aomori with a friend than being on a typical guided tour. We had a really fun day and got to see and experience a side of Aomori we definitely wouldn’t have found by ourselves. We’d absolutely recommend Hiro!

Thank you so much for your lovely review! I loved how you embraced the day as if you were locals enjoying an ordinary weekend in Aomori. I had such a wonderful time with you, and it was a pleasure hearing about your hometown, your work, and your lives. From making Tsugaru lacquerware spoons to trying local favorites like Natto-hanpen-fried tofu, Sujiko, and Kirikomi, not to mention Tsuyu yakisoba in Kuroishi, we shared so many little tastes of everyday life here. Exploring Niji-no-Mart, our local kitchen, and the Hirosaki Museum of Contemporary Art together was another highlight. Our conversations were just as memorable. Your thoughtful observations and curiosity made the day especially enjoyable for me. I hope you’ll enjoy a comforting bowl of soup with your new Tsugaru lacquerware bowls and the spoons we made together. Please give me a little more time to send the spoons! “Wonderful tour in Aomori to Hirosaki City and Apples”
Our group of 7 thoroughly enjoyed our time with Tomo. He was prompt and easy to find at the cruise port, dressed in a bright kimono and very visible sign with our names written names. The van was roomy and even had a step stool to make it easier to enter the higher floorboard. He provided great guidance throughout the day and made sure we even had a chance to sample the delicious apples and apple products which this region is famous for. The lunch location was enjoyed, especially the soba noodles. We are happy to say that we will be touring with him on two additional occasions during our cruise. We would highly recommend Tomohiko.
