Hi, I'm Akira, please call me Aki. I am a Hokkaido native, born and growing up near Hakodate and National Government licensed guide interpreter. I used to be an elementary school teacher until retirement. I've been to the U.S twice to study the American educational system sent by Hokkaido board of education. I also acted as a volunteer guide in Hakodate city for more than ten years because as a civil servant, moonlighting was prohibited by the authority. After retirement, I started working as a professional tour guide mainly in Hokkaido, but because of the Pandemic, I soon lost my job. So I decided to enter graduate school of Hokkaido University where I studied Japanese modern history. So I am well-versed in Japanese history and culture. “A Beautiful City”
This was our second tour with Miyuki and we enjoyed it just as much as the first. Otaru is quite beautiful and even more so as it was snowing. We never felt rushed with Miyuki and she was happy to let us look in any of the shops that we passed and even encouraged us to do so. My adult daughter was particularly impressed as other guides have rushed us past shops. We were booked to make glass beads however the shop was not open at the time Miyuki had booked. This did not deter her as she adjusted the itinerary to have lunch and tried to find another venue. We ended up at the original shop at a later time and it was a lot of fun. Our final stop was the sake brewery and after showing us through Miyuki went back to collect our bead creations so we didn’t have to backtrack. We all thoroughly enjoyed our day thanks to Miyuki.
