Tsubame-Sanjo area is famous for its metal processing industry. It started 400 years ago because the local people suffered from the floods caused by the Shinano River. You can learn about the history of the metal processing industry by visiting Tsubame Industrial Materials Museum. You can also see and experience world-class traditional artisanship by visiting "Sanjo Kaji Dojo", Sanjo Blacksmith Training Hall or "Tojiro Open Factory".

Meeting Point
Tsubame-Sanjo Station
- Meet at the Shinkansen exit.
Sanjo Kaji Dojo, or Sanjo Blacksmith Training Hall
You can strike a Japanese nail of 5 inches to make it into a letter opener. Strike while the iron is hot.
Tsubame Industrial Materials Museum
In the activity hall, you can make a coffee mug or a beer mug or experience coloring silverware such as spoons, cups if you like.
Lunch
Gyokusendo Inc.
You can appreciate acclaimed traditional artisanship of Gyokusendo, which is a long-standing and highly regarded producer and marketer of local tsuikidoki (hand-hammered copperware).
Tojiro Open Factory
You can observe knife manufacturing procedures at the open factory. Feel the sounds and passion of the factory and appreciate the artisanship.

・Lunch per person costs you between ¥1,000 and ¥3,000, depending on what to eat.
・Admission to Tsubame Industrial Materials Museum is ¥400 for adults, ¥100 for children under 18.

Basically I am available on weekends and Wednesday the whole day in 2026. I am also available on Monday before 12:00 and Friday after 13:00. Though I don't live in Sado Island but in Niigata (mainland) area now, I can guide you in Sado Island as well as in Niigata area. I also have a house on Sado Island.

Panoramic Sado One Day : Let's Enjoy Nature, History, and Culture on Sado Island
You can enjoy the beautiful scenery of Sado Island the whole day. You are going to visit Sado Gold Mine, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You can eat fresh food obtained from the sea and mountains near by for lunch. Go south to Yajima-Kyojima or Ogi Port and you can enjoy riding on Tarai-bune (wooden tub boat), which is unique to Sado. You can drop in at local sake brewery on your way back to the port. If you are lucky, you might be able to see Toki or crested ibis flying in the paddy fields .
