One Day Historical Tour to Shibata & Niigata
You can travel from the past to the present by visiting Shibata castle, a wealthy farmer's mansion with a breathtaking garden, a rich merchant's villa and Niigata City Museum. You can learn about many things about the history of both Shibata City and Niigata City. It is difficult to visit each spot by public transportation, but you don't have to worry about it. All you have to do is enjoy visiting attracting spot with the local guide in his own car.

Meeting Point
Niigata Station or your Hotel in Niigata
- You will find a statue of a loyal dog at the east exit of Niigata Station. It is on the second floor of the station.
Shibata Castle
Shibata Castle was built in 1654. You can appreciate special technique called "Kirikomihagi", which in those days was considered the best technique of shaping stones and piling them up without spaces to build the stone walls. The main gate (Omotemon) and Kyu-Ninomarusumiyagura (tower) are the only castle buildings in Niigata which have existed since the early 18th century.
Let's Stroll around typical Japanese Garden, Shimizu-en
You can stroll around a typical Japanese garden with a pond and enjoy its different landscapes seen from various viewpoints. You can also see a long house with thatched roof, which served as lodgings for soldiers.
Northern Culture Museum
Northern Culture Museum used to be a mansion owned by Niigata's wealthiest farmer, the Ito family. You can see a huge house with a beautiful Japanese garden. You can feel as if you were a rich landlord when you sit in the middle of the 100-mat- tatami drawing rooms.
Lunch
You can eat buckwheat noodles for lunch at a Soba Restaurant "IWANO-YA" on Friday and weekends, which is on the premises, if you like.
The Niigata Saito Villa
The Niigata Saito Villa was a villa built in 1918 by a wealthy merchant, Mr. Saito Kijyuro. You can appreciate the architectural concept of "unity of a garden and a house".
Niigata City History Museum & Former Niigata Customs House
You will learn about the history of Niigata City, especially focusing on water.
You can also take a look at Former Niigata Customs House which was built in 1869, when Niigata Port was opened to foreign countries.

Basically I am available on weekends and Wednesday the whole day in 2026. I am also available on Monday before 12:00 and Friday after 13:00. Though I don't live in Sado Island but in Niigata (mainland) area now, I can guide you in Sado Island as well as in Niigata area. I also have a house on Sado Island.
