Sapporo is the capital city of Hokkaido with 1.9 million population. It was constructed in a wilderness of the vast Ishikari plain in 1869 with the leadership of a government urban planner, Shima Yoshitake. You can see the footprints of pioneers all over the city. Why don’t you walk around the downtown area to feel its 150 years of history and the new culture?

It was originally built as the military drill hall of Sapporo Agricultural College, today’s Hokkaido University.
Because of its lovely appearance and the reminiscences of Hokkaido development, the clock tower is said to be a symbol of Sapporo city and its bell sound is familiar to the citizens. Today, the inside of the building is a museum that exhibits panels conveying the days of Sapporo Agricultural College. The admission fee is 200 JPY.
Odori Park is a representative park of Sapporo forming a green-belt that runs west-to-east in the downtown. It is a place for citizens and tourists to relax and offers a stage for various seasonal events held throughout the year.
