There are many historical sites around Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine that tell the story of Kamakura.
Hasedera
The mountain has been known since ancient times as ``Hase Kannon,'' but its official name is ``Kaikozan Jishoin Hasedera Temple.''
It is said to have been founded in the 8th year of Tenpyo (736) during the Nara period, and is one of the oldest temples in Kamakura that was designated as an imperial shrine during the reign of Emperor Shomu. The principal image is a statue of Eleven-faced Kanzeon Bodhisattva. It is one of the largest wooden carved Buddha statues in Japan (height 9.18m), and is counted as the fourth of the 33 Kannon sacred sites in Bando, and its lanterns have been passed down to the present day as a symbol of the Kannon sacred sites that represent Togoku.
Enoshima
Enoshima is a land-connected island with a circumference of 4 kilometers and an altitude of 60 meters located in Fujisawa City, Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan. Enoshima is located at the outlet of the Katase River flowing into Sagami Bay. Enoshima is now the center of the Shonan region and a tourist attraction along the coast of Sagami Bay.
