Jogashima – From Tokyo to an island away from tourist crowds
Jogashima is located at the southern tip of Kanagawa, out into the Pacific Ocean. It has been listed as a two-star destination of Michelin Green Guide Japan. It is famous for jagged cliffs and remarkable landscapes. On a clear day, you can see views of Mt. Fuji over Sagami Bay.
The place is great all year round with beautiful daffodils in the spring, magnificent pine trees in the summer, a nice ocean breeze and a hike in the autumn, and a perfect time to welcome cormorants back home in winter.

Meeting Point
Misakiguchi Station
- It is the last station, operated by the Keikyū railway line, located in the city of Miura, Kanagawa, Japan. It is about 1.5hr from Tokyo Shinagawa Station. We will meet from here and take the local bus to go to Jogashima and enjoy the local scenary on the road (farm field, little town, fish port, windmills, and on a lucky day, mountain fuji!) *if you want to meet up at Yokohama hotel first then travel down together, feel free to let me know and I am happy to accompany you. However please note that additional transportation fee (by train) will be added.
First stop: Hakushū-himae
Hakushū-himae, literally meaning “in front of the Hakushū Monument,” is a well-known spot on Jogashima Island. The name comes from a stone monument dedicated to the poet Kitahara Hakushū, who wrote the famous poem “The Rain of Jogashima.” We will start the journey by starting in a poetic way into the island’s literary and cultural history.
Optional: Visit the poem museum (Free of charge)
Second stop: Umanose Doumon (Horseback rock gate)
We will walk our way to reach the scenic area. This is a rock gate created by long-term seawater erosion, which is one of Japan's nature-created scenic places.
Third stop: Jogashima Park
It is the eastern half of Jogashima island where there is a picnic area. It is perfect for us to take a tea break with rice balls (which we can buy at the station beforehand, or I can prepare beforehand if you wish) near the black pine or on the comfortable green grass.
Please note, during winter, it is perfect for bird lovers to visit and observe. During spring, there will be many lovely daffodills.
Umiu Observation deck/Jogashima Shopping alley/Cat time!
Based on everyone's energy level, we can choose from walking more around such as visiting the observation deck, taking photos of the lighthouses, or visiting some local souvenir and fish shops on the island. Or a better idea, taking photos of all the island cats as they are many cuties living on at Jogashima.
This part can be customized.

“Fun Energy & Great Food”
We contacted Carrie with a last minute effort to fill one of our open/unplanned days in Yokohama with more than us strolling around, wondering where some of the fun places Yokohama has to offer. Carrie responded to our initial message quickly and after a brief look at her schedule, she was able to accommodate our tour request. She offered two meeting locations and arrived about 10mins early (we only know that cause we arrived 20mins early, not being 100% sure of our train commuting skills lol). We decided on a day (4 hour) tour of ChinaTown and let me tell you, we could have explored 6-8 hours with Carrie’s guidance. She started off telling us about the gates at the entrance/exits to begin our tour and then it was food option after food option! (Come to ChinaTown hungry, very hungry… like skip dinner the night before kinda hungry). We stopped in to have our birth dates explored and explained our past, present, and futures (which was spot on for the most part! Eek) After sampling some more tasty treats, Carrie took us to two different temples, each having different meaning, which she explained in great detail that we appreciated. Afterwards, we enjoyed a tea set and an array finger foods at a local spot and finished our tour with a 30min foot massage. All in all, we had an amazing day with Carrie. She has a great bubbly and lively vibe, is talkative (but not too much), and willing to share all her favorite spot in ChinaTown. We definitely recommend her as a guide and will be using her in the future when we return to Japan!!

This Is Your Exotic Tour In Yokohama
I will guide you scrolling around the Japanese Landscape Garden, where you can experience the tea ceremony and taste powdered green tea, within three hours. (please take note the tea ceremony is now closed) You will feel relaxed in very greenery atmosphere and the beauty of Japanese cultures. After the sightseeing of the garden, I would recommend to visit at China Town and Yamashita Park. You will find the aspects of the international town of Yokohama.
