As a Chinese person living in Japan, exploring Yokohama Chinatown always feels a bit like coming home. It’s the largest Chinatown in Japan and packed with flavors that remind me of my roots—from sizzling street snacks to nostalgic comfort foods. In this tour, I’ll take you through some of my favorite spots to taste authentic Chinese bites, discover hidden gems, and soak in the vibrant atmosphere that makes this neighborhood so special. Chinatown
Time to eat and explore. I will also take you to the historical sites and visits of temples along with all the local areas and shops! There will be so many good food so please come with an empty stomach!
Pai-loo
First things first. Let us go through the signature Pai-loo of Chinatown (a decorative or monumental gateway having a trabeated form with three compartments).
Yokohama Mazu Temple
We will then pay a visit and ask for some good luck at Mazu Temple.Mazu is a popular goddess of seafarers, health, and peace, and is believed to protect those who travel.
Foodie Time
After the proper greeting to Mazu, we will walk around Chinatown to start a foodie party. Some amazing choices are:
-Pan-fried soup dumplings (pork/seafood/vegetables)
-Big sized Taiwan deep-fried chicken
-Steamed Bun (red bean/sesame/meaty)
-Dim Sam style finger food
-Bubble milk tea, fruit tea

Kanteibyo Temple
Let us walk around to digest the good food.
This temple in Yokohama Chinatown houses the widely revered warrior Guan Yu. This famous general from the History of the Three Kingdoms was later deified

“Fun Energy & Great Food”
We contacted Carrie with a last minute effort to fill one of our open/unplanned days in Yokohama with more than us strolling around, wondering where some of the fun places Yokohama has to offer. Carrie responded to our initial message quickly and after a brief look at her schedule, she was able to accommodate our tour request. She offered two meeting locations and arrived about 10mins early (we only know that cause we arrived 20mins early, not being 100% sure of our train commuting skills lol). We decided on a day (4 hour) tour of ChinaTown and let me tell you, we could have explored 6-8 hours with Carrie’s guidance. She started off telling us about the gates at the entrance/exits to begin our tour and then it was food option after food option! (Come to ChinaTown hungry, very hungry… like skip dinner the night before kinda hungry). We stopped in to have our birth dates explored and explained our past, present, and futures (which was spot on for the most part! Eek) After sampling some more tasty treats, Carrie took us to two different temples, each having different meaning, which she explained in great detail that we appreciated. Afterwards, we enjoyed a tea set and an array finger foods at a local spot and finished our tour with a 30min foot massage. All in all, we had an amazing day with Carrie. She has a great bubbly and lively vibe, is talkative (but not too much), and willing to share all her favorite spot in ChinaTown. We definitely recommend her as a guide and will be using her in the future when we return to Japan!!
