Yokohama Bluff (Yamate)

Start at the Bluff. The Bluff area is a historic district where during 19th and early 20th century this area was official settlement for foreigners in Japan. There are historic churches, houses, and a foreigners cemetary (Gaijin Bochi), a popular sightseeing spot for visitors.


British House

Former British Consul General's home built in 1937. It is now owned by the Yokohama city and the house is open to the public.


Yokohama Foreign Cemetary General

A popular tourist site with over 3,000 graves of foreign residents in Japan. The first foreigner to be burried here was an American Marine in 1854.


Yamate Museum

Built in 1909 it is the only remianing western-style wooden structure in Yokohama and offer exhibits of the Bluff's history.


Yokohama Christ Church

Historic Anglican Church built in 1864.


Sacred Heart Cathedral

The oldest church in Japan built in 1862.


Yokohama Yamate Museum of Tennis

Birthplace of tennis in Japan with exhibits display of antique tennis wear, raquets, and photographs.

Motomachi Shopping Street and Chinatown

France Yama Park

From Harbor View Park, stroll down the hill through France Yama Park, location of the former residence of French Consul General.


Motomachi Shopping Street
