"No. 5 Exit" on the 1st Floor of Minato-Mirai Station
We walk to the Yokohama Landmark Tower and climb up to the observatory deck on 69th floor.
The Yokohama Landmark Tower is a standout feature of the Yokohama skyline and a symbol of the city's modernity and architectural prowess. It's located in the Minato Mirai 21 district, serving as a multifunctional urban complex.
When it was completed in 1993, it was the tallest building in Japan, standing at 296.3 meters tall. It held this title until 2014. The tower has 70 floors above ground and 3 basement levels.
The 69th floor is home to the Sky Garden observatory deck, offering panoramic views of Yokohama, Tokyo and Mount Fuji on clear days.
We walk to the Nihonmaru Memorial Park.
Nihonmaru Memorial Park is a maritime-themed park located in the Minato Mirai district of Yokohama, near the Yokohama Landmark Tower. It's known for its combination of open, green spaces and its dedication to maritime history and education.
The Nippon Maru is a four-masted training ship built in 1930. It was used for training cadets and has sailed nearly 2 million kilometers which is the equivalent of 45 trips around the Earth. Now retired from service, the ship is preserved as a museum where visitors can learn about Japan's maritime history and the life of trainees aboard the ship.
Adjacent to the Nippon Maru is the Yokohama Port Museum, which offers exhibits related to the history of Yokohama Port and the science and technology of ships. It provide insights into the importance of maritime trade and navigation in Yokohama's development.
We walk to the Red Brick Warehouse.
The Red Brick Warehouse is a historic building complex located in the Minato Mirai area. These iconic structures have a rich history and have been transformed into a multifunctional cultural and commercial facility.
The Red Brick Warehouse consists of two buildings, Warehouse No. 1 and Warehouse No. 2, constructed in early 20th centuries. They were originally used as customs buildings for the Port of Yokohama.
The buildings are significant examples of early modern Japanese architecture and are some of the few structures that survived the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923 and the air raids of World War II.
Today, the Red Brick Warehouse serves as a cultural and commercial hub. Warehouse No. 1 is primarily used for events and exhibitions, hosting art shows, concerts, and various cultural events throughout the year.
Warehouse No. 2 has been converted into a shopping and dining complex, featuring a unique selection of shops, boutiques, cafes, and restaurants.
After watching through the Red Brick Warehouse, we will have lunch at a restaurant on the 3rd floor in the Warehouse No. 2.
Elephant Nose Park is a scenic waterfront park located in the Minato Mirai district. Its unique name, translating to "Elephant's Trunk," originates from the park's shape resembling an elephant's nose. The park is not only a place of relaxation and beauty but also holds historical significance for the city of Yokohama.
The Yokohama Archives of History is a significant institution in Yokohama dedicated to preserving and showcasing the history of Yokohama, especially focusing on its development as an open port and its interactions with foreign countries. Located in the Kannai district, close to other historical sites, the archives play a crucial role in telling the story of Yokohama's transformation from a small fishing village to a major international port city.
Yokohama Park is a well-known public park situated near the bustling Chinatown and the historic Kannai district. Established in 1876, it is one of the oldest parks in the city and has served as a central recreational and cultural spot for residents and visitors alike.
The park is well-known for Yokohama Stadium, a major baseball stadium that is home to the Yokohama DeNA BayStars. The stadium hosts numerous baseball games and events, drawing crowds of sports enthusiasts.
Yokohama Park, with its blend of historical significance, natural beauty, recreational facilities, and cultural events, plays an integral role in the city's community life and stands as a testament to Yokohama's rich heritage and dynamic present.
Yokohama Chinatown is not only the largest Chinatown in Japan but also one of the largest in the world. Its historical significance is deeply intertwined with the opening of Japan to foreign trade in the mid-19th century and the subsequent development of Yokohama as a major international port.
Yokohama Chinatown was established shortly after the Port of Yokohama was opened to foreign trade in 1859. The port's opening was a part of the Treaty of Kanagawa, negotiated by Commodore Perry between the United States and Japan. Many Chinese traders and immigrants came to Yokohama and set up businesses, mainly to cater to the needs of the increasing number of foreign residents in the city. This marked the beginning of Chinatown, which has grown and evolved over the years.
Yokohama Chinatown's historical importance lies not only in its role as a center for trade and the Chinese community in Japan but also in its contribution to the cultural diversity and international character of Yokohama. Its rich history, vibrant present, and enduring cultural traditions make it a significant and cherished part of Yokohama's identity.
Motomachi Shopping Street, located in Yokohama, is a fashionable and historic shopping avenue known for its unique blend of Japanese and international influences. Situated close to the Yamate area and Chinatown, it has been a symbol of elegance and style since the late 19th century.

“Friendly, professional, knowledgeable, flexible, accommodating, and fun!”
Our day with Macky was excellent. In every way, Macky delivered. We had a full itinerary planned, and even with a last minute request to change one of our stops from a bike ride to a winery visit, Macky was able to accommodate. If you are looking for a guide that will find a way to squeeze in all that you want to do within a short time frame without sacrificing the integrity of your trip, Macky is your guide. Prior to our tour, Macky sent us a detailed itinerary down to the hour (while also allowing for flexibility). He really listened to what we wanted to do and what we wanted to accomplish in one day and he made it all happen. Macky is a great tour guide with a wealth of knowledge about Japan who will work with your requests and make sure your day/tour is time extremely well-spent. Thank you, Macky!
