There is a long samurai story in Japan. Where they came from and when they had gone away ? A lot of elaborating samurai goods such as armors, helmets and brilliant swords are telling their deep history and turbulent stories here. After Meiji restoration mid-19th century, advent of new era came out, so sadly there were no place that samurai could live by theri martial skill. Modern military from weetern countries replaced them with guns. YES! Movie LAST SAMURAI, starring by Tom Cruise, is beautifully telling its real end. Nothing can last forever this world. This is Japanese concept since olden days, once-in-a-life time-moment is so beautiful.
There were a lot of iron sands mining in the river of western Japan. By collecting iron sand and smelting, many sword smiths competeted to forging high quality Japanese swords mainly during 15-19 century. But skilfull sword smiths are no more,, only few. As a steel engneer, I feel sad, but this is reality.
It is said the weigt of armors is 30 to 40 kg, so I think a samurai has a strong muscle,,,
