From lacquerware, bonsai and woodworking, every craft carries a story passed down through generations. In this tour, I’ve selected several workshops where you can watch artisans at work and experience the joy of creating something by hand. It’s a wonderful way to learn about Kagawa’s craftsmanship, meet local artisans, and take home a truly special memory of your trip.

Bonsai work shop

Kagawa Prefecture is Japan’s top producer of bonsai.

In this workshop, you can learn how to create bonsai directly from experts who live and work with these miniature trees every day.

Before and after the workshop, I’ll share fascinating stories about bonsai — its rich history, how it’s grown in local fields, and how its styles and trends have changed over time.

Wagashi come in many forms — from delicate fresh sweets to jelly-like and baked varieties. During the workshop, I’ll introduce their history and meanings, and share fascinating stories behind these beautiful traditional treats.
