[This plan is only in June because of the hydrangea's season.]
The Megane bashi & the Kofukuji temple, as national heritages, are decorated with hydrangeas as the city flower of Nagasaki in June. The Mihara garden is in a hidden area, and using a cab is much more convenient than using a local bus. However, the garden established by a famous local man will become your favorite place! Ther're some important tips: It's necessary to wear sneakers or non-heel-shoes because of slopes and steps.
This itinerary can be customized to meet your needs and preferences. Send me a message with your requests!
Meeting Point
your hotel in Nagasaki, or a cruise ship terminal or JR Nagasaki station
- If at the hotel, I'm gonna be standing in the lobby. If at the ship terminal, I'm gonna be standing at the exit of the immigration. If at the JR Nagasaki station, I'm gonna be standing at the ticket gate.
The Megane stone bridge
In June, this bridge is decorated with hydrangeas, the city flower. This bridge is one of 12 stone bridges on the Nakashima River. The surface is rough, so it's kinder for those with damaged legs. Sometimes near the bridge, a staff member is selling a kind of local ice cream. This ice cream is formed like a rose. Most local people spend their childhoods with it, including me.
The Kofukuji temple
The 2nd owner of this temple built the Megane stone bridge in 1634. And this temple is the oldest Chinese styled temple in Japan, built in 1620. In June, in the temple, there are many pods of hydrangeas. There is very calm, peaceful, but more histories, including the damage by the atomic bomb in 1945. The admission fee is 300 yen per adult, and only by cash. If you correct Goshuin stamp, you can get one there.
The Mihara garden
After using a cab or a local bus from the City Hall stop, you can enjoy separate areas of the Mihara garden. There are some rough steps, so wearing sneakers is the best choice. In the garden, not only the regular Japanese-style garden, can enjoy the seasonal flowers & the botanical cafe. The cafe is open from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm. There are no Japanese foods in the cafe, but soft drinks and alcohol, and right meals. And free WiFi and power socket, too! You may forget your daily busy days during a stay in the garden area.
Leave the garden and go back to the meeting point
The buses on the timetable is less than last year. So if you're timely, you can take a bus to the central area. But it is advisable to consider the use of a taxi. The bus stop is non-modern, but you can learn that most countryside in Japan has old-fashioned bus stops, as if they're in classic Japanese movies like this.

Not only Nagasaki, I can guide you in Sasebo, Unzen, and other smaller cities in the prefecture if you pay my transportation fee.
In 2025, it's the 3rd year as a private tour guide. I speak English and German a little. My hobbies are knitting, handicrafts of earrings and keychains, writing & reading novels in Japanese, and searching for good cafes. Next year, I'm about starting to garden for vegetables and harbs. The main place of a tour is Nagasaki city, including the war hisotory spots. I'd like to guide you to the cities of Sasebo, Saikai, and Unzen, too, if you hope. But I don't have a driving lisence, so transport
while your tour is necessary. I'm good at a family tour for your young kids, too. I like kids, so I'd like to suggest some ideas for their playing in the Nagasaki prefecture.
