Ryukyu Castle Hopping! - Gosamaru vs Amawari
There are hundreds of unique castle ruins, called Gusuku, in Okinawa, and five of them were registered as the world heritage sites in 2000. This tour visits three of them, namely Zakimi castle, Nakagusuku castle, and Katsuren castle, as an imaginary time travel to the Ryukyu Kingdom.

Zakimi Castle
Important castle for the Ryukyu kingdom because it locates in the middle of the island and has a wide range of views from the northern mountains to the southern plain. A faithful retainer of the Ryukyu king, Gosamaru, who is also known as an expert in castle construction, built it in the 15th century.
Lunch
Let's enjoy local palatable cuisine according to your preference.
Nakagusuku Castle
Gosamaru moved to this castle by the order of the king to restrain Amawari. Amawari is based in the Yokatsu peninsula and had strong power. Moreover, the kingdom made a princess get married to Amawari. The princess was a daughter of the king, and also a granddaughter of Gosamaru.
Katsuren Castle
For the Kingdom, Amawari was a threat. However, the commoners who lived in the peninsula adored him as a great lord. One day, he decided to raise an army to overthrow the Kingdom. For his wife, that was a battle between her husband and her grandfather, eventually her father. Whom should she save? What did she do??

Tour Important Information
The battle between Gosamaru and Amawari is the largest and the most famous internal disturbance in the Ryukyu Kingdom. Through visiting actual scenes of the story, you can imagine the situations lively and deepen your understanding of Okinawan history with a real feeling.
- Admission fee for castles is ¥1000 in total.
- Please wear comfortable clothes and shoes to walk. Castles have rocky and steep slopes.
- Please bring enough amount of water to avoid a heat stroke.
- Wearing a hat and sunglasses, and putting sunscreen on are also recommended.
- Okinawa is still a cash-based society. It would be better to bring Japanese Yen as cash for purchasing lunch and souvenirs.
- Using public transportation is impossible for the tour. I strongly recommend using a rental car or hiring a taxi.
- Depending on the weather and traffic conditions, the schedule is subject to be modified.

“Captivating Tour and tour guide! ”
I was visiting my son during the winter holidays and wanted to learn about Okinawa and WWII. I am so lucky to have selected Harry as our tour guide. Harry was in planning mode and in communication with me from the start. We planned a full 8+ hours which included many different historical sites and a museum. Harry is a former school teacher and really knows how to convey the history of Okinawa and the second world war. Harry also introduced us to the best lunch spot in Naha. He kept us engaged from 8am until the last minute of the tour. I highly recommend scheduling a tour with Harry!! Loved every minute! Best, Patty MacLaney

“Amazing and friendly battlefield tour of Okinawa”
Harry is very knowledgeable, speaks English well, and is funny and kind. He took us in his car which was clean and comfortable. We had a wonderful lunch together of traditional Okinawan food.

Dear John, Thank you so much for your kind and thoughtful words. It truly means a lot to me. I was honestly a bit worried after we condensed what was originally a two-day tour into one day and had to move at a faster pace in some parts. So hearing that you two still enjoyed the experience was a great relief and made me very happy. I also want to sincerely thank you for treating me to lunch. Sharing traditional Okinawan food together was definitely a wonderful moment, and I truly appreciated your generosity. More than anything, I really enjoyed our conversations throughout the day. Especially your story about sending Chuck Berry’s “Johnny B. Goode” into space—it was fascinating! Thank you again for spending your day with me. I hope our paths cross again someday. Warmest regards, Harry

“A Must Book”
Harry is beyond wonderful, and a phenomenal tour guide. When I scheduled our virtual tour of Okinawa, he messaged me to ask what we were most interested in from a list of options he provided. He then built a whole tour around our interests, which was WWII in Okinawa. He went to take pictures of some of the places specifically for the tour, and answered all of our questions thoroughly. He knew my brother had been stationed in Okinawa, so he told him some great places to visit. I am actively looking for another tour to book from him because he was so wonderful.

Dear Carolyn-san, Thank you so much for your incredibly kind and thoughtful review. I am truly honored by your words. It was a real pleasure to guide you all through Okinawa’s WWII history virtually, and I’m delighted to hear that the tour matched your interests. Knowing about your brother’s connection to Okinawa made the experience even more meaningful for me, and I was happy to share places that might resonate with him personally. I would be delighted to guide you again anytime—whether virtually or in person. I look forward to exploring more of Okinawa together in the future. With sincere thanks, Harry

Tracing the Front Line! - WWII Battle of Okinawa Tour
The Battle of Okinawa was one of the bloodiest ground warfare in WWII. When U.S. troops landed on Okinawa island on April 1, 1945, there was little counterattack contrary to their expectations. This was because the Japanese strategy was to build strong underground positions in the southern part of the island and turn the fight into an endurance contest. From this day, the 3 months of fierce battles embroiling citizens began. In this tour, we will trace the front line of the battle in 2 days.
