Tokyo is known for its neon lights and bustling streets, but beyond the tourist hotspots, there’s a quieter, deeper side to the city. I’ll take you to three unique locations that showcase Tokyo’s hidden charm—starting with the nostalgic backstreets of Yanaka, moving to the artistic heart of Nakameguro, and ending in the vibrant local scene of Shimokitazawa.
This tour is all about slow exploration, unexpected discoveries, and experiencing Tokyo like a local.

Meeting Point
Nippori Station
- We can meet at JR Nippori Station’s North Exit, or I can pick you up from your location and take you there.
Yanaka Old Town
We’ll begin our journey in the nostalgic district of Yanaka, a rare part of Tokyo that survived the bombings of WWII, preserving its old-town charm.
Walk through Yanaka Ginza, a quaint shopping street lined with traditional sweet shops, tea houses, and artisan stores.
Explore the hidden temples and shrines scattered around the neighborhood.
If you love cats, you’ll enjoy spotting the real ones lounging around and checking out the many cat-themed stores!
Try a freshly made taiyaki or melon pan from a local bakery—this area is known for its old-school treats.
After strolling through Yanaka’s backstreets, we’ll hop on the Yamanote Line to Meguro.
Nakameguro
Nakameguro is a stylish neighborhood famous for its scenic riverside and trendy boutiques.
Walk along the Meguro River, a peaceful escape lined with cafés and independent shops, visit a hidden coffee roaster, or try one of the many local bakeries, check out a contemporary art gallery or explore some of the area’s unique secondhand fashion stores.
If you’re in the mood for a bite, we can stop at a cozy ramen shop or a local izakaya for an authentic experience.
From Nakameguro, we can either walk for about 30m, or a short train ride to our final stop—Shimokitazawa.
Shimokitazawa
Shimokitazawa is Tokyo’s bohemian neighborhood, known for its indie music scene, vintage shops, and relaxed vibe.
Wander through the vintage fashion district, where you can find one-of-a-kind clothing pieces, discover hidden record stores and local live houses, grab a drink at a cozy coffee shop or explore a quirky bookshop.
If you’d like to stay longer, I can recommend some great live music venues or bars to check out in the evening. Otherwise, we’ll wrap up the tour here with a proper local farewell.

I am from Venezuela, with roots in the US and Sweden. I have lived in Tokyo now almost 10 years! I am a musician and very social by nature. Because I've been in Tokyo so long I know Japanese fluently, and I have had time to discover many places only locals would find. If you choose me I'm sure you will have a time you won't soon forget!
